Photoshop problem: I wonder if others may experience

I had some simple editing to do by adding to an existing mask with my brush. As I clicked at one point, it drew a line slightly to the left. Any time I clicked the brush, a new, parallel line appeared. I tried the Stamp, Healing Brush, or even the Lasso tools; they were all awry. I searched on the Adobe forums and found many having the same problem.

After trying some recommendations on the forum, I realized that none worked. After some experimentation, I realized that this only happened if the display Scaling setting was anything other than 100%. I ended up changing the display resolution to 1600x1050 and keeping the scaling at 100%. So far, Photoshop is behaving as expected. However, this created a string of scaling and sizing issues in other applications, and I have spent hours getting them back to a usable point.

I am sharing this here for two reasons. First, to find out if anyone ran into this problem and found a solution other than changing the scaling to 100%. Second, to let anyone know that if you have this strange problem, you are not alone. This problem does not exist on my desktop computer. The laptop I am reporting here is an LG Gram, 17" screen laptop. My deteriorating vision forced me to upgrade from a 16" laptop to this one about a month or so ago.

This does not happen with my set-up (Mac Studio M4 Max, Studio Display XDR 'More Space' @ 3200 x 1800, macOS Monterey 26.5.2., PS v 27.8).

Out of interest, if you save/ exit/ re-open the image in question - do the 'ghost lines' persist (i.e. are they permanent, or a temporary manifestation)?

Not only are they permanent, but the odd behavior also prevents the user from doing what is necessary. I have just updated Photoshop. We'll see if the problem still persists.

That sounds incredibly irksome. The permanence suggests a bug (to me) as opposed to an OS, or graphics card/ driver issue corrupting the screen.

Be interesting to see if the update fixes things.

I have just tried after the latest Photoshop update, and the problem is still there. I am not surprised that Adobe is ignoring the problem reported by a good number of users, as they are still in the minority! Back to 100% scaling.

I found a solution to my problem in a very odd way. It still does not explain what was causing the problem. I created a new user on the same computer, logged in with the new credentials, started Photoshop, and all the tools were working fine. Then, I moved all my files from under my original user account to the new account, including all the AppData folders. Now, I can run it at high resolution with 150% scaling, and everything is working OK. I am still using all the applications installed on this computer under the original user. Phew! (Until the next mystery problem!)
