So what features would people like to see added to the R6 either via firmware update or a new R6 Mark II. Obviously one needs to be realistic about what's possible to add via firmware, there certainly won't be an increase in megapixels. Thanks to @Greg for suggesting this thread.

The only thing that I "miss" with any of the cameras out of the 1D series is the ability to save your camera settings to a card so that you can transfer/copy them to another identical camera .... The 1D series has always had that capability, but Canon leaves that function out of other models. The R6 doesn't do that, but I'm betting the R3 will ....

THIS. The R5 does it, it would be great if they'd allow it with a firmware update for the R6. With my memory (or lack thereof) the way it is, it would be VERY handy.

We have the R5 now, too, and after comparing, I think I like my little R6 even more. I'm okay with 20mp most of the time. I can use Topaz to gain size if need-be. I'd be okay with the dual pixel raw once in a while, but I don't want to deal with massive file sizes on a daily basis. Sorry, getting off-subject here.

I'm still learning the camera, I'll hopefully have more input in the future.

Ahhhh ... that's good to hear !! Yeah, my memory not being what it used to be, I'd like that firmware upgrade to save those settings to a card. It really comes in handy if you need to send your camera into CPS - 'cause when you get it back the camera has been returned to factory settings .... just inserting a card and reading your previous settings into the body would keep you from having to remember every setting you've made in that body.

Another matter for a firmware update for the R6: I wanted last night to configure a button (or a dial - ANYTHING!) to toggle between mechanical shutter and electronic shutter .... couldn't do it !! There is no configurable button or dial for Shutter Mode ....
As a work-around I just added that menu item to My Menu - at least, now I don't have to circulate through the menus to get to it ....
But for the next firmware update - that would be high on my list !!

This really applies to all r’s but since I use an R6… Id like to see more custom options for the control ring. For my purposes as it sits the ring is useless. I would really in particular like to be able to use it to set a timer or shut the timer off. I shoot on tripods fairly often and use the timer and then pick up the camera 20 minutes later to handhold and forget the timer is still on.

This is more of an issue with the RF lenses than R6 per se, but I believe the problem can be addressed using the camera firmware. Apparently there's a "focus shift" issue, very well described here. Essentially, the lens focuses using the aperture of f2.8, and if a different aperture setting is selected for shooting, e.g. f5.6, the focal distance changes slightly resulting in your target being out of focus. I personally have not had issues with this yet, but plan to investigate it in the near future.

It is more applicable to particular lens(es), but I think this could be a relatively easy fix using the camera firmware, which could rely on a function or a lookup table relating the type of lens, its focal length, aperture and current focusing distance to the required adjustment to focus just before a picture is taken. Of course I might not understand the nuances of optics, and maybe this is actually a much more difficult fix.

I second to that. But I don't think it's possible via a firmware update. It's the only feature I am missing after using the R6 for half year.
All 1-digit Canon DSLRs had that feature after it became available in early 2010s, including lower tier 6D and 7D Mk2.

As it is, R6 can't tell the difference between a bug and a flower. Tracking is so bad it's funny.

For the R6 and R7, I would agree that the ability to save settings to a card is the most important.

Also for the R7 it would also be great if the AF point button could be set to Register And Recall A Shooting Function. That would give us another back button that we could use to make instant changes to multiple settings.

Yes you can do it that way, and depending what you are shooting it would be fine.
In my case I shoot mostly birds, and sometimes you have to make several changes very fast.
Reaching for the top dial is much slower than just sliding your thumb to the next button.
The R7 does let you do this with the * star button however I like to have the R5 and R7 buttons set to the same settings, so I am using the star button for other settings.
This is just what works best for my needs, but may not be best for everyone. The great thing about these cameras is that we can all customize them to our individual needs.

I often switch between AF selection modes (face/eye tracking vs manual selection modes). I can only use the *M-Fn* button, where it would make much more sense to be able to select the mode using a wheel. I ended up remapping the AF selection button to iterate through the different modes.

Not having a built-in GPS is a serious disadvantage. Not sure what the cost-saving and battery-saving is, but I think Canon's reasoning is that everyone carries a phone anyway. I don't bring my phone to every shoot (or leave it in the car), so I miss this feature. On the other hand, the GPS did drain my 5D IV batteries overnight several times and left me without charge the next morning. I resolved it by removing the batteries when I finished the shoot. It would have already been better that it could sync up with an Apple Watch (not sure if that would be technically possible).

I prefer the ergonomics of the 5D IV over the R6 and also it feels more sturdy (although the R6 is good enough). I do miss the grip on my R6, but the goal was to reduce weight on trips. Adding the grip adds 351 gram to a 680 gram camera adds over 50% of weight, so I'll try without one. I would love to see a grip extender (without any electronics are battery) like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1061854688/grip-extension-for-canon-r5r6-with (but this one looks horrible).

Was there not an option to turn it off?
If they add a GPS functionality to any future cameras, I really hope the ability to turn it off is readily accessible as GPS is a huge drain on the batteries. I personally don't care for it during everyday shooting, but I could see a case where it would come in handy if I'm traveling and would like to keep the geotags.

You can turn it off, but then you forget to switch it back on again and your photos aren’t geo-tagged. Removing the batteries is easier and you won’t start shooting without the battery.

In my search for the ever-higher magnification I ended up acquiring OM Systems OM-1, as it's supposedly the #1 camera for macro. I'm yet to figure out what all the fuss is about, as while indeed you can get a slightly higher magnification, overall it seems inferior to R6 while holding a very similar price point. However...

It boasts a suite of "computational modes," the coolest of which is the ability to achieve an 80 megapixel capture (on a tripod, or 50mp handheld) using the sensor shift. It takes a series of images while shifting the sensor slightly and then combines them into one large image. It's pretty impressive. Canon R cameras have the floating sensor as well, so without knowing otherwise, I would imagine they're only a software patch away from achieving the same ability.

Would really hope to see such a feature pushed in an update.

Another item on the wish-list is that the camera would report a GPS fix, when the GPS is not accurate. I had the Canon Connect app in the background, but it wasn't allowed (by iOS) to update its position in the background. All my photos on the trip were made on the place where I opened the Canon Connect app the last time. Huge bummer. I ended up using my Google timeline to resync all locations.

I'd like illuminated buttons please like, I believe, the R3 has. Also, an LCD display as big as the R5's. I don't have sausage fingers, but I struggle with the menus on this smaller screen.

I would like to have the ability to have an external HDMI recorder and still use the EVF... losing the EVF when HDMI is connected can be ok but I would prefer to still put my eye to it instead of have to mount and watch the recorders monitor.

I'm not sure what the R6 II already address besides more MP, but this is what I wish the R6 could have:

• The ability to save all settings to a card for backup or transfer to another camera
• The ability to customize the Q menu
• When I customize another button to “Menu display” (like I've done to the DOF preview button), I wish that pressing the button again would act the same as the dedicated Menu button, i.e. go back a step in the menu instead of returning to shooting mode
• The ability to shoot 4K video indefinitely without overheating (but I'm sure we all wish that)
• The ability to scroll back to Auto ISO using a dial while metering is active. Instead, I have to lift my eye from the viewfinder, look at the screen, press Q, tap ISO, then scroll to select Auto ISO. Or at least the ability to customize a button to instantly return to Auto ISO.
• Easier addition of items to My Menu. Ideally, the ability to add a menu item to My Menu after selecting it in another menu (like having a checkbox beside an option to "Add to My Menu"). Right now, one has to scroll through a gigantic list of ALL menu options which aren't at least even sorted by existing location (ex. SHOOT3, AF2, PLAY3, etc.). Even having them sorted by their existing location would make this easier.

Anyhow, that's all I've found about the R6 that I would improve if I could. So far it's been the most amazing camera I've ever owned.
