I know that this lens is often referred to as a “kit lens,” but it is really an absolutely fantastic L series lens. It has a useful focal range, is reasonably bright at F4, has image stabilisation, and outstanding image quality. What’s not to love? It’s the lens that is on my camera 80% of the time.

I just bought myself an RF 100-500 also.

This is the 2nd to last of the RF lenses that I have been wanting. The only one left is the 85 f/1.2. Going to be a while before I can afford that one.
Love the RF 100-500mm and love the RF 85mm f1.2!!! Like you I said I would wait on the RF 85mm. Unlike you, I lied to myself 😂😂

Unlike Tim, I have a serious GAS problem. I just picked up the RF 24-70mm f2.8 and can’t wait to get outdoors to put it to work. Unfortunately, a wind chill of -40°C says, not today😡

Over the past few weeks I sold off several lenses I was no longer using. Since the end of last year I have been wanting to get the Canon RF 100-500mm, 100mm macro and if I have enough funds, the 14-35mm. What is holding me back is there are no deals going on right now, nothing refurbished at the Canon Store and no Street Price deals at Canonpricewatch.com. Back at Christmas I could have gotten the 100-500mm refurbished for $1999, CPW had it on a Street Price sale from a Canadian store for $2100. Sadly I had not completed the sales on some of my old lenses so did not purchase. The 100-500mm list price at most US retailers has gone up $100 to $2699 so I will just wait. Even used at MPB and KEY have gone up; not a supply issue as MPB has a dozen or so in stock.

I recall seeing that Canon USA had a disappointing 4th qtr. the end of last year so maybe they are reluctant to have any special deals. Perhaps Canon is concerned that Japan might be hit by the tariffs that our new leader is threatening. Oh well, I'm earning some interest on the money in the bank.

Well, my post from yesterday must have nudged my guardian angel. I got a notice today from Canonpricewatch that the Canon Store has the RF 100mm macro as refurbished for $999, down from what the usually charge which is just under $1100. A new one is running $1199 at most online sellers. With sales tax it was $1082 and I got free shipping so overall happy.

I wanted this to replace the Tokina 100mm EF macro but this focal length is also good for portraits and while it is an f/2.8 and not as fast as the 2 portrait lenses I sold, it's still wide enough to produce some nice falloff behind someone I'm photographing. The SA adjustment ring on the new lens gets mixed reviews. Some people like it, others say it's not worth using so I will see.

Just over a week ago I got the RF 24-105 f/4 L. Some good prices about at the momemt and sold my EF version II. It's my walk about lens and its lighter than the EF version + the adaptor.

Finally saw a decent reduced price for the RF 100-500mm lens so I bit the bullet and ordered it; it should be delivered on Saturday. The price for new ones seemed to go up after the 1st from the Christmas period when I was not ready yet to make a purchase. The official Canon dealer set price is at $2699 plus sales tax, most were giving free shipping but our sales tax is 8.25%. I found a used on at Robert's Camera which is a reputable online and physical store in Indianapolis. Anyway they had a refurbished lens with the usual accessories plus the Canon zip up lens case for $2190 in Excellent condition. From the images at the website it looked like the only small blemish was on the base of the tripod foot, otherwise clean and near perfect.

Now I will sell my Tamron 150-600mm G2 lens.

Interesting to see US prices compared to UK. The current typical selling price for the 100-500 from a UK retailer is $3523. I can buy one from B&H in NY for $2699, pay $61 shipping and $563 import tax which makes it $3323 saving me $200......however, I can buy one from a Grey Importer for $2329 delivered. I think they get the stock from the US and somehow sell it well below the UK retail price. I'm afraid I buy all my new gear from grey online dealers now. Panamoz in particularly are brilliant, their stock comes from Hong Kong and comes with a 3 year warranty to replace the 1 year one you'd get from Canon. Their price is a bit dearer for the 100-500 at $2466.

However, getting back to what I have bought recently was 3 LN-E6P batteries which were $79 in B&H compared $122.80 from the only Grey Importer that advertises them for sale . The UK recommended price is $147 each. The problem is you are not allowed to ship lithium batteries unless they are contained in a device here in the UK( I assume that's allowed in overland postage) from the US they simply won't send them due to shipping restrictions which are presumably by air.
Luckily I had a friend coming over from NY so he brought the batteries in hand luggage when he came to visit. That was a $200 saving!
