Just sold my R5MII. Not enough of an upgrade from my R6MII to justify the price (was having serious buyer's remorse). Lost about the equivalent of 40 USD in the process. I'll call that a rental fee. All good now, and I have an even greater appreciation for the capabilities of my R6MII.

Had the opportunity to use one for a week and I walked away thinking the larger EVF is nice. I ended up with an R3 and I am real pleased with the purchase. The R5 MkII is nice but my MkI suits me just fine when I want more MP.

There were certainly features to like, but for me, the image noise was disappointing...even at lower ISOs.

Agreed, but like you I didn't notice are marked improvement in the R5 MkII as it related to noise reduction. I tend to spend time in the woods so low light is a given for me and the R3 was better suited then the R5 MkII and the R3 offered upgraded features. The 45 MP would have been nice but not a requirement.

And please don't get me wrong, it is a nice camera but I did not feel compelled to upgrade over my current R5 based on the features.

I have been more than happy with my R5. For me, I feel my money is better spent on good glass that complements my shooting style and genres.

I had to purchase a new Photography book release "Uncommon" as it contains four of my photographs.

I was finally able to purchase the Canon RF 200-800mm lens which has been pretty much on back order all year. I requested an alert from Canon Price Watch a few months ago. Sure enough yesterday I got a message that an authorized Canon dealer in Canada had it at $1899 and was including free shipping and no collection of my state sales tax (8.25%). And this morning my wife informed me my IRA distribution hit our bank so I had more than enough to buy the lens. The reviews I have seen have given the lens decent marks. It isn't perfect but hopefully will be good enough for my long range shots. I will sell my RF 800mm f/11 lens now.

I tend to like a lens case for when I am on the go in a car or a flight and there isn't room for a big lens like the 200-800mm in my gear bag. The one for this lens from Canon is expensive at $159. I found this one on Amazon and ordered it using points I had accumulated with my Amazon Visa card. I kind of like that it's big enough for my camera withe vertical battery grip as well.

Makes no sense that Canon does not machine the lens foot mount to be a Swiss Arca style like the 3rd party manufactures do. I found this one online at Amazon. It has 2 screws to secure it tightly and keep it from twisting. Only $20 but why a $1900 dollar lens doesn't include it is crazy.

I agree! It would be so easy to do, it makes no sense that they don’t. My Sigma 150-600 is the same way! Grrrrr.

I agree, but if they had an Arca Swiss style foot on the lens the 7 Manfrotto mount users in the world would complain. Can't make everyone happy..... :D

No offense intended for Manfrotto Quick release users out there...I used to be one of you.

Here's a thought , they could make the foot easily changeable and you could order the foot you wanted when you buy the lens.

Trading an R5 and a OMS OM-1 in on a second R5 MkII.
Red…

I'm thinking of trading my R5 plus 3 extra batteries (bought 2021 & all in decent condition) for an R5m2 and 3 extra batteries.

What is your (and anyone else's) opinion on the percentage discount I could expect; for example, would the trade-in reduce the price of the new gear by 50%? I think I'd go ahead with that!

My local dealer sent me this:

"All of that being said, most usedR5 cameras are being sold used between $1750 - $1900. And, it’s a tough sell – because the market is somewhat saturated. I would expect somewhere around $1300+ for a really nice R5 trade + 10% if you trade-in toward a R5mkII. "

Well today I scheduled to sell some gear to mpb.com. Since I got the RF 200-800, I decided to part with my Tamron 150-600mm G2 version lens as well as the Tamron 1.4 TC and Tap In console. Also sending in a Sigma 135mm ART f/1.8 and a Samyang EF AF 14mm f/2.8 lens. Getting just under $2000. With that and what's in my gear/bank account I will order the RF 100-500mm and the RF 1.4 TC. I will have some residual for a later purchase.

I bought a Patona Dual Charger with Powerbank function for LP-E6 batteries. I purchased it soley for the powerbank function as I have been testing the various LP-E6NH third party batteries I own and it allows me to discharge the batteries and measure the mAh output of each battery independent of the camera.

It does work well as a powerbank, but it will discharge batteries down to completely empty which apparently isn't something you would want to do over and over. It does discharge rather slowly so the batteries do not very warm at all. But, in a pinch, it would serve to charge your phone using your camera batteries as an energy source. But, it does not support any type of fast charging etc, as stated previously it discharges slowly. Which is a good thing in this case, in my opinion.

I've been thinking of getting a ground pod pan for my upcoming birding trip in New Mexico in December. If you aren't familiar with these, it's basically a pan shaped disk that you can mount a tripod head to for shots taken at ground lever. Great for rough or muddy terrain shots when you have to be down on the ground with your camera. The main brand model you see advertised is made by Skimmer and costs around $110. I found one made by a seller on Etsy for $55 that looks just about the same so I ordered it. I'll put the money saved towards a neoprene Lens Coat for my 200-800mm lens.

That looks like an interesting bit of kit. And better than using a tripod. My problem nowadays is getting myself to that level and getting back up again😂

Please do update us on how that Etsy pan works out. I’ve thought about those too but felt $110 is too much for what it is.

Same here, I tell my grandkids when I play with them, "the getting down isn't the hard part, it's the getting back up!
I agree. My tactic is to keep lying on the ground and claim that I am meditating.

I just made an impulse buy. B&H had a pair of SanDisk Extreme Pro 512GB CFExpressB cards on sale for less than I paid for a single 256GB card just 2 years ago. Black Friday sale. I also bought a Ruggard Memory Card Case for CFExpress cards.

Just took delivery of a Tamron Sp 35mm F/1.4 Di USD (EF) lens for my R5. I haven't had the chance to put it through its paces yet but looking forward to doing so!

This is quite a popular thread on the Sony forum that I run so hopefully it will be popular here too (thanks Brownie!).

Simply post any purchases or sales/trades of photo gear. This could be anything from a filter to a new computer purchased for editing. Software, accessories, and of course bodies and lenses!

I've been fairly good recently and have resisted my GAS urge. My last purchase was a pair of Vallerret Tinden Photography Gloves to keep my hands nice and toasty during our colder snaps. They definitely did the trick although they are a little bulky which I found made it difficult to get a good grip on my R5 with the 100-500 attached as there is very little room between the lens and grip. Hopefully heading into April I won't be needing them for a while now!
Hi Tim, I bought canon R5 mark ii, Canon extenders EF 1.4x iii and 2x iii, Canon EF 500mm f.4 is ii usm, lens coats for canon 100-500, 200 800mm and 500mm, new battery for canon r5 mark ii, cotton carrier strap, canon adapter EF - R mount. That's all for now 😊

Two days ago I ordered the relatively new Move Shoot Move “Nomad” tracker. A smaller and simpler version of their first generation tracker.

I already have the iOptron Sky Guider Pro, which is a fantastic tracker, but decided to get this Nomad for times when I want something easy to carry in a backpack.

I am a Tamron fan. I had the 45mm until a few months ago and it was a very sharp lens. I am sure you will like the 35mm.

I sold my Godox TT685II flash and bought a Godox V860III Ving flash.
