Driving down the road one day and thought "What the heck is that?" Been in North Dakota since '68 and this was the first time I'd seen something like this

Had to ask Google for help -
1978 Husky 8 - The large four tracked vehicle is designed to move heavy payloads in mud, muskeg, swamp, and snow conditions. The sealed undercarriage components provide excellent fording ability combined with high approach and departure angles. The independent crank arm suspension and flexible track provide constant ground contact and absorb shock loads while maintaining lower ground pressure. Standard Applications include; Mining, Pipeline Maintenance, Powerline Installations, Heavy Equipment Delivery, Oilfield Equipment Delivery, Rig Moving, Water Tank Delivery.
Turning radius = 46 ft. Max speed = 9 mph. Tare = 94,500 lbs, Payload = 80,000 lbs, G.V.W. =174,500 lbs. Overall length is 46'7" x Overall width is 12' x overall height is 13'6".

Would love to see the thing run. :)

An old, abandoned truck in Barron County, Wisconsin, USA. Locals tell me it is a popular spot for Proms, weddings, engagements, and Family photos. Photo taken in April while visiting family in the area.

The semi submersible crane Thialf was entering Stavanger Fjord as I was leaving on a cruise ship, rather a large mechanized machine, its 201m long 88m wide and 144m high, the cranes can lift 14,200 metric tons when working together, its now the second largest crane vessel in the world. It weighs in at 136,709 tons. It was going in to Stavanger to do a combined lift with the largest crane vessel SSCV Sleipnir.

Go Strayhound

Last year while location scouting from my desk using Google Maps / Street View I found Erie St in Lowell, Arizona which is about two seconds south of Bisbee, AZ.

It was only about 2-1/2 hours away from where we were staying and well worth it!

Stirling Engine. Invented by Scottish engineer Robert Stirling.

I did a similar pic for the Alpha Shooter's forum. This is the 'Canon' version.

Well done and thanks to everyone who entered and voted in our Mechanized Machines competition this month. As usual there have been some cracking entries!
  • 1st place with 7 votes was @PKM-UK with a terrific and very steamy shot of the Woodland Wanderer steam train.
  • 2nd place with 5 votes was @AOC with a stunning and very atmospheric shot of a Boeing Superfortress.
  • 3rd place with 4 votes was @Dean Wilson with a perfectly aged image of a GMC Scenic cruiser. Nicely done Dean!
  • Also joint 3rd with 4 votes was @THXGEEK with a beautifully captured shot of a very very shiny Stirling Engine.
The theme for our competition this month will be Land and Cityscapes. I will be kicking this off shortly providing I can stay awake after a weeks holiday with the kids!
