I've seen this on other forums, but not here, so let's do it. What do you consider your best captures of the last year?

You totally did! 🙀 I must have missed it, but I appreciate your contribution here!

Wow, I shot almost 11,000 images last year so narrowing it down to 5 is tough. I guess in the end it came down to portraits of 2 of my granddaughters and then some bird images.

Definitely a tough choice. Excluding grandchildren, we have...

You remember the photos of the jets I posted? I think it was Sept of last year. I shot 12k at that event ALONE! And kept maybe 35 perfect shots!

...and that's about five years worth!

I don't take many shots when I go and keep very few that I take.

I also spend a lot of time wondering why people are always complaining about battery life and storage space. :p

Just imagine the processing cost, if they were film….
My peak years for shooting when I had my studio were from about 1986 1995. I had a lot of retail and catalog clients as well as the corporate annual reports. I probably was averaging 4000-5000 shots on 35mm, 120, 4x5 and 8x10. My lab loved me for all the work I brought them. And one had to consider not only the cost of processing but film and even trips to and from the lab. I can only remember that I charged the client $35 for a roll of 36 exposure Velvia or Kodachrome. That covered the cost of buying large quantities, testing the color and the processing.

It's not hard when you consider the rapid burst shooting our cameras do as well as having large memory cards to fill up. We have the ability to take a lot of pictures and only the buffer will slow us down momentarily. I used to shoot mostly with Nikon F3 cameras with motor drives for small format work. I think you could burn a 36 exposure roll of film in something like 6 seconds. I had 4 bodies in my bag and usually hired a photo assistant who was constantly reloading cameras.

Oh yeah. R6II is amazing for burst but it was an overnight affair to get everything into Lightroom and ready for culling.

From around 18,500+ keepers (and a well used Bin), the 'Phil' part of Phil and Karen contributes 5 2024 images based on their 'makes me smile' qualities. :)
