Great Egrets are a bit unusual around here. I’ve been seeing them along the dirt road where I walk the dog, but as soon as I even drive down the road, they’re GONE.

Don't know where "here" is, but yes, egrets and lots of other birds will spook easily in some places, yet be tolerant of humans in other places.
