I am seriously contemplating the purchase of a Canon 100-500L lens to go with my R6 MKII soon. Would like some recommendations for a shoulder bag for that combo. Right now I have a Tamrac 517 which is a few inches too short but that is the style bag I am seeking. Please help. Thanks, Mike.

After a lot of research I bought a Vanguard Alta Sky 42. The inside can be configured in many ways and it's the only bag I found that will take the camera with the lens attached. It's also very comfortable when out walking. It's not cheap but considering the value of the equipment that it is carrying it is worth the price

I have a Bellroy sling bag and really like it : Bellroy Venture Camera Sling
Use it for my R50 and 100-400 but I’m pretty sure the R6II/100-500mm will also fit.

100-400 with lens hood:

I have the Vanguard Alta Rise 33, and it's my go-to bag for most things. It will fit my EF 70-200 f/2.8 with the RF adapter, but NOT with the camera attached. I think the Alta Rise series is being phased out, because the camo 38 is the only one listed on their site. The inside of the 38 is 15" x ( 4 1/8" + 2 3/8'' ) x 11" - the same width as the 33, but 2" taller.

My EF lens is 3.5" x 7.83" (9.75" with the adapter) and the RF 100-500 is 3.7"x 8.2".

Edit: the bag would fit my R5II and the 70-200 if stored horizontally, but I use the dividers and carry three items vertically.

I was going to recommend a holster bag, but then I looked up top again and that's what you're trying to replace.

I have the 100-500 and keep it mounted on an R7 and the whole thing fits in a Think Tank Holster 30 v2. That bag unzips at the bottom to make it a few inches longer, which was how I used it with an EF 400/5.6. But with the 100-500, it fits with the case shortened up and the lens hood reversed.
