Hello,
I'm using DPP4 just for basic post processing before I move the file to Silver Efex. With DPP I just use it for cropping, converting the image to monotone and saving it to a TIFF. What I am wondering is should I be using DPP for more than what I do with it before the file goes to Silver Efex. I don't have a lot of exoerience with post processing which is obvious by my question. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Tim

Since Silver Efex doesn't have a cropping tool, you need a program like Canon's DPP or Microsoft's Paint for cropping. You could switch from Silver Efex to Adobe Lightroom and watch YouTube videos.

If you do decide to make the switch you could easily do everything in one program.

Hi Tim,

I don't use DPP4, but I would suggest you do basic processing and crop using that App, then send the file to Silver Efex for the B&W stuff.

(I wouldn't convert images to monotone in DPP4 - Silver Efex is regarded by many as being the leading B&W conversion software around).

I'm not sure which version of Sliver Efex you have, but there's a wealth of tutorials on YouTube - one example of which can be found Here.

Hello,
Thank you for responding. I believe Silver Efex can do everything I want to do. It was my limited use of DPP I was questioning and using it to convert to a monotone. I truly love B&W images especially done with a selenium tone. This is what I hope to accomplish with my images except using purple in the selenium tone instead of blue. Thank you again.

Thank you Phil, especially for the tutorial. I will be using Silver Efex 8 which is the latest iteration.

Hi Tim,

No problem, v.8 is excellent (I use it too) and in which case I’d also recommend you check out Robin Whalley’s channel - click Here.

Yep. Convert to monotone in Silver Effects.
Thank you. I didn't realize Silver Efex would accept color images. I'm just starting out with it and learning how to use it.
