Canon R6 I Canon R6 Firmware Update 1.3.1

It appears that Canon has quickly addressed the R6 firmware issues in 1.3.0 by releasing 1.3.1 today:

Firmware Version 1.3.1 incorporates the following fixes and enhancements:
1. Adds [IPB (Light)] to 4K to enable lower bit rate shooting.
2. Adds [Electronic full-time MF] to the AF tab of the menu. When a lens is attached, manual focus adjustment is always possible with both One-shot AF and Servo AF.
3. The transfer time (estimated value) now displays on the camera monitor during FTP transfer.
4. Fixes a phenomenon, in which in rare instances, the camera cannot function normally when the drive mode is set to "High-speed continuous shooting" to shoot still images continuously.
5. Fixes a phenomenon that may corrupt the image displayed in the viewfinder.
6. Fixes a phenomenon in which the power may become suspended when the camera is powered via USB for an extended period of time.
7. Fixes a phenomenon, in which the camera stops to operate normally when the movie cropping setting is set to [Enable] for performing movie shooting in Firmware Version 1.3.0.

I hate to sound too iggerent but now I've downloaded it to my laptop could someone please guide me through how to instal it on the camera. I've never done a firmware update pn amy of my cameras mainly 'cos I'm a scaredy-cat afraid of doing more harm than good. Thanks.

It’s pretty easy. Just unzip the firmware and copy it over to the root directory of an sd card. Insert card into camera and go to the firmware update option in the menu. I’d recommend using a battery that is fully charged. Don’t touch the camera until it’s complete.

Thanks Timothy. I'll give it a go once I've found where the Firmware Update option is in the menu. I've just had a trawl around and can't find it, so I'd better do the unthinkable and RTFM.

Thanks again for the nod Timothy. Unfortunately for me, unlike the image in the Advanced Manual showing seven submenus to choose from Setup5 only gives me two options: Battery Info. and Manual/software URL. I think I'm going to have to contact Canon for guidance on this one, but only after the Bank Holiday weekend.

Ted, if you go to You Tube on internet, there are quite a few videos on updating firmware. Just remember to format the SD card in the camera before copying the new firmware to it from your computer.

I've found the problem with the missing menu items - ME. I didn't realise that submenu options appear and disappear according to what you have set the camera mode to, Av, Tv, Fv. etc. All I need to do now is take a look at those YouTube videos and bite the bullet. Thanks for your help.

Yes, I think you need to be in Manual to access the full range of menu items.
