The 70-200 F4 doesn’t always get the respect it deserves. On R bodies it is very capable. I haven’t had a situation yet where I “needed” the extra stop and $1100 of the 2.8. That includes poorly lit municipal ice rinks at 1/1000 shutter speed. Even at ISO12,800 or the occasional 16-20k shot the images come out sharp, clean, and useable after post processing.
