Hello everyone,

I've noticed recently that when my R3 displays the image in the viewfinder (pressing the playback button), it only displays the image briefly and then immediately switches back to the normal viewfinder image for taking photos. I usually see the displayed photo for a very short time and then it switches to the normal viewfinder image. I don‘t use the monitor, it is always closed.

I didn't touch a button, so that can't be it.

It's noticeable that this happens to me in blazing sunlight; I haven't observed this behavior in the shade yet.

FW is up to date, the lens was the RF 70-20° F4, but I've also had this issue with the EF 100-40° L MKII.

Best regards,

Achim

Not sure about the R3, but on the R5 it’s called “Image review” and it’s found here in the menu:

Probably the same on the R3, so you can turn it off if it makes you irrationally angry.

@TwoWheeler
Thank you, but that's not the problem.
I have the automatic image review turned off, but sometimes I look at my photos, and I do that using the viewfinder. I always fold the monitor away because, as a glasses wearer, I can't see anything on it anyway. I've adjusted the viewfinder to my diopters so I can take photos without glasses.

Now, when I press the play button to view the images, I see the image very briefly and immediately afterwards the normal viewfinder appears again. This rarely happens (at least not at a tournament today), but it can be annoying.

My question is, maybe some of you have noticed this before.

Best regards,
Achim

Now, when I press the play button to view the images,
I missed that detail. 🤦🏻

Just tried it on the R5. I have “review duration” set to “2sec” and “viewfinder view” set to “disable”. If I shoot, I get no display in the EVF, but if I press the playback button after shooting, the image comes up and stays there.🤷🏻‍♂️

We’re comparing R5 apples to R3 oranges, but you might try that. If you have the LCD turned in, you don’t care if the image shows up there.

You tried ro help and that is what counts :)

That‘s exactly how my R3 is set. Yesterday it did not happen on a horseshow.

I use the Play button all the time to review images in-camera and I don't have this issue. I wish I could come up with some theory that applied to the bright shooting conditions. All I can think is that you are inadvertently activating some other control that takes the display back to shooting mode.
