I wouldn't say that DPP is bad at all. It is free and works well. In my opinion, it does not have the best noise reduction or sharpening when compared to other paid-for programs. It will produce very good image quality and is fairly easy to use. It is a great place to start with processing your Canon raw files.
If you are shooting a lot of really high iso images and are bothered by the resulting noise, then one of the paid programs, DXO/Lightroom/Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw/Capture One etc, might be a better choice for you. But you need to find out what your own individual needs and wishes are and then try a few programs and decide for yourself which one is best for you. Raw processing programs are like anthing else. What I like and feel is the best for me might not be what you like and feel is the best for you.
Many people exclusively use DPP and get wonderful results from it. To each his own....
