This is my first image sent in 2023. It was taken over the weekend in Corning NY. Eagle about 50 yards away. It didn’t stay there long flying away just after I photographed it. 700 mm and cropped to about 60% of original full R5 frame file.

Nice shot! Great that you were able to get the eye in such good focus despite all those branches.
 
Great shot Ed. Are bald eagles common upstate? You don't see them down here, though we have a fair share of other raptors.

Mike, in the Souther Tier there are several areas to see eagles. Also northern PA. Up in Syracuse, by Onondaga Lake, when the ice freezes over photogs flock to the area to get close to 50-75 eagles that annually come there. So, yes, the eagles have made a large comeback over the last 10 years or so. :)
