Canon R5 Firmware Updates

Late doing the latest firmware update to my R5, 1.9.0
Have never had trouble doing a firmware update before.
Cannot get my .FIR file to open so I can't update firmware.
Working in Windows 10 environment. Updated Windows and did not help.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't open this file. I've spent all afternoon trying to figure this out myself.

So just to check, you are dropping the .FIR file on your camera's formatted memory card, putting it back in your camera and then going to Firmware to do the update in the R5 menu, right?

You cannot open the .FIR file on the computer. As already pointed out you need to copy it as is to the cameras memory card. Or use EOS Utility and use that. Which will basically copy the FIR. file to the cameras memory card for you.

You're not supposed to "open" the .FIR file. The Canon web site has specific instructions for updating firmware.
