Hey Folks,

I've updated the forum software this morning to the latest version.

This was quite a significant change under the hood but not too much of a change on top.

There are a few styling issues that I need to take care of but it mostly appears to be working correctly :)

The light / dark forum views do now work a little differently and there's a system option that should just copy whatever theme settings you are using on your device.

There's also a new bottom menu on mobile devices which is similar to what many other social sites are doing now. I've not decided if this will be kept but will trial it for a while.

I expect there might be a few issues so if you spot anything please do let me know :)

Many thanks!
Tim

One thing I have just spotted is that the EXIF data is no longer displaying below images. It's still displaying when you click on the image and view the exif data there. I'll need to look into that a bit more.

Menu Headers

Tim…
  1. Menu headers seem to disappear when clicked: "What's New" in the screenshot above (Safari on MacBook Pro).
  2. EXIF data doesn't appear (iPhone as well as MacBook Pro).
I'm using latest apps:
  • Safari 18.0.1 & macOS 15.0.1
  • Safari & iOS 18.1

For comparison only to David's post. Running Windows 11 with Firefox 132.0.1 and having good results, header works as it did prior to the update.

I like the new look.

From a performance perspective I agree with Marc - everything seems to be working well with this software combination.

On second thought, EXIF data is NOT displayed under Windows 11 and Firefox 132

Thanks David. I'm not sure why your menu is not displaying correctly. I've tested it on Safari and my iMac and MacBook and it's displaying correctly. Does it make any difference if you switch to the dark theme using the icon next to the search icon? It could be that something is cached.

Yes the EXIF isn't displaying below the images for anyone right now, it's something my developer needs to take a look at unfortunately. It should still be visible in the media gallery when clicking on images.

Hi Tim,

I get the same issue as David - I'm using Dark Mode and when I hover the cursor over a top menu item (black with white text) the menu item turns white, but the text also remains white and so seems to 'disappear'. Once I stop hovering over the menu item the normal white text on black background resumes.

[MacBook Pro M1 Max 16" 32GB, macOS Sequoia 15.1, Safari 18.1]

Barring the already known about below image exif snag - still visible via metadata as you suggest - everything else seems to be OK (well, so far... :)).

Thanks Phil. Further investigation is required I guess! Does the problem persist if you close the competition notification bar?

Tim, all good here, first change was to the dark mode - no issues I can see, top menu when hovered over just goes a lighter grey. ;-)

It looks like the menu issue is just with Safari 18.1. I've upgraded my MacBook to MacOS 15.1 and Safari 18.1 and I'm now seeing the same, it's working fine with Chrome. I've asked the theme developer about it. They are normally pretty responsive so hopefully we'll have a fix soon.

Hi Tim, Sorry we’re away now, so I’m confined to my aged iPad (where everything seems OK menu-wise!).

:)

Hi Tim,

Seem to be running into a slight problem trying to post in Street photo forum…getting an error to select a prefix but it won’t let me actually select it.

So I was able to submit the post with desktop, but the issue seems isolated to mobile (when on iPad when I observed it).

Thanks Ed. Seems to be working ok for me on desktop and mobile, I'll have to dig out my old iPad to see what's happening on there. Are you able to view the prefix dropdown box just not select it?

Seems like I can’t replicate it now either. Must have been a me problem. Sorry for bothering you. ;)

No worries. Glad that it appears to be working. Hopefully no more gremlins! :)

Hi Tim.

Selecting text to edit or delete is the came color as the background using Dark.

Hi Tim,

The top menus are now behaving A-OK (thank you!).

Next snag - when I insert a hyperlink, the link text is not underlined/ in red (to indicate it is a link).

See this example - also shown in the associated linked post - click Here. :)

Is there a way to see the EXIF information below the pictures like in the old version?

PD... Answering myself... The Developer still working on that...
