News Four New Sigma APS-C Prime Lenses for Canon RF

Sigma has announced the pricing and availability for four new APS-C prime lenses for Canon RF:

• 16mm F1.4 DC DN $489 - Available from January 23 - Pre-order from: B&H Photo
• 23mm F1.4 DC DN $599 - Available from January 23 - Pre-order from: B&H Photo
• 30mm F1.4 DC DN $369 - Available from December 5 - Pre-order from: B&H Photo
• 56mm F1.4 DC DN $529 - Available from December 5 - Pre-order from: B&H Photo

These lenses join the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN and the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN that are already available.

Nice and fast looking forward to the reviews. Shame they are not FF but I think Canon want to keep hold of that, which is fair enough. so the RF16mm has a serious contender on APSC, depending on what its performance is like.

Some of these focal lengths seem kind of random or arbitrary to me - is that a byproduct of designing to hit a specific full-frame equivalent focal length? Like why 23 instead of 24? Or 30 instead of 28 or 35?

I also wish we would get some FF third party AF lenses for RF mount. This is why I do not have any RF mount lenses...all EF.

As far as the odd focal lengths, I remember reading something about Canon stipulating that the 3rd party lenses could not be in direct competition with Canon's own offerings. And, I assume that the fact that these are RF-S lenses means that the 16mm aps-c Sigma isn't direct competition with the 16mm RF FF Canon lens.

Ah that's a good point regarding the avoidance of competing with Canon's lenses, I've seen that same bit of information elsewhere.
