After 10+ years of shooting with my Canon EOS t2i (550d) I sprung for an R5 and an EF to RF adapter so I could use my old Canon EF 400mm f/5.6L and Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses. My Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens works well, to, if only in 1.6x crop mode. The step up in image quality , ISO noise, and pixel count was expected, but still amazing. Early on, I rented an RF 800mm f/11 for a trip to see whooping cranes, but made the mistake of shooting too slow and was disappointed by the results, but I fully believe that's on me, not the lens. I mostly shoot wildlife, birds in particular, but anything that breathes will find itself looking at the big eye.

Welcome Dave and thanks for joining up here! If you have any questions about the site please don't hesitate to ask! I have seen some pretty good shots taken with the RF 800 but you definitely need good light. Since I'm in the UK I decided to go with the RF 100-500 instead.

I have my eye on the RF 100-500mm, too. Just need several thousand $ to appear in my checking account.

Well worth saving for. You will not be disappointed but you will need to adjust your impressions of ISO. The R5 is destroying many of the old limitations I had and it opens up a lot of opportunities.

Given that I tried to avoid ever shooting above ISO 400 on my t2i, the freedom of going up into the thousands and getting better image quality than I sometimes got at ISO 400 is fun. Beyond that, being able to use autofocus way beyond f/8 is really useful. BiFs were almost impossible with the t2i. With the eye tracking, it's possible to slow down and keep the bird in a good place in the frame instead of desperately trying to keep the center cross on the bird.
