Hi everybody.

I’ve enjoyed the site for a while now and I thought it would be rude not to join you. I’m a decades old Canon man but about 12 months ago I added mirrorless to my armoury. Firstly I bought a new R7. With the 2 rfs lenses (10-18, 18-150). I’ve since added a used R8 and treated it to the 24-105 F4 L because I thought it deserved a decent lenses. I’ve bought a few other RF lenses along the way, 16mm, 35mm macro, and 100-400mm. I know I shouldn’t mention it but I still use my canon DSLR 5 series cameras as I like their back to a more basic time.

My photography journey started about 45 years ago with black and white 35 mm, moving on to colour. Started developing and printing firstly in the loft and later in the converted back of my garage. Those were frustrating days - colour casts 😩 on most prints.

So I’m a dinosaur but I’m loving the new technology.

Welcome!

I remember developing my own B&W film back in the 70's. (Saying that, my 'sensory memory' is suddenly filled the interesting aromas of developer, fixer and stop-bath... Those were fun times!)

Ah yes, the smells.

Hello Dinosaur Paul and welcome. Back in your "film days" what camera(s) did you use... do you still use one occasionally?

My first camera was a Praktica MTL3 but I can’t remember which 42mm screw thread lens I had.

Welcome from a fellow dinosaur! I started "serious" photography 41 years ago when I bought my first SLR, a Canon T-70 (I still have it). I bought it to keep from being bored when I was stationed on a remote site (US Air Force) in Greece.
Got into DSLR in the early 90s and then my first mirrorless (R5) as a Christmas gift to myself in 2022.

When I bought my R5, I bought it as a "kit" with that same lens you have, the 24-105 F/4. It's the lens that's on my camera probably 80 percent of the time.

I went through several different cameras before finally getting the R5. The good news for you is the R5 is still a fantastic camera, but the prices are going down because of the R5 Mark two being out.

Welcome. Me too. Read of of Ansel's books, built a 4 by 5 field kit by Bender and did all of the darkroom stuff. 35mm B&W only film, no colour. Depends on what app you use there are lots of great videos about B&W conversions, getting rid of colour casts, etc on YouTube.

There are great B&W 3rd party apps out there. I like to do it myself from scratch. It's always like a box of chocolates and I could not repeat that same editing session the next day. It will be different. Loads fun. No dodging/burning wands and no smell. I couldn't go back that.
