SwampGrizz here, glad to be on board. I look forward to learning from those who have been there and done that. I'm a relative newbie, I think I'm out of kindergarten and maybe in the first grade. At least I'm not eating the crayons anymore. More like the little kid at summer camp with a Brownie camera taking pictures of turtles.
I've had my R50 for about a year now, and day by day I'm getting used to it. No complaints, very satisfied with the camera, at this point it's not the camera, it's me when something goes wrong. Have an RF 35mm 1.8 prime that I really like, and just traded my two kit lenses (18-45 & 55-210) for an RF-S 18-150 lens. I know it's another kit lens, but I want to keep one lens on the camera for most of my shots. I'm hoping it will be sharp enough, will find out when it gets here. I look forward to any and all constructive feedback. Thanks in advance.

Welcome. I don't think you'll have any complaints about the RF 35mm and it will be sharp. The versatility may be a challenge, but cross that bridge IF you come to it. The RF across is very good and EF lenses can be adapted.

Being a northerner, just hearing the city name Savannah brings back fond memories, but also makes me sweat :). In the Air Force in the late '80's, I spent a summer in Savannah and loved it! My friends and I spent our limited free time on the water front and Tybee Island. About ten years ago, I got to take my daughters to Savannah for vacation. Even better than may memories except for the porta-potties at the end of the river front walk. Come this January, I will be envious of your location.

Btw, do you recognize those places and are they still there?

Jim,
Thanks for the reply. Glad you enjoyed Savannah. Your photos were excellent, and did the place justice. I am familiar with all the spots you mentioned and showed in your photos. Sadly, Joe’s Crab Shack is closed, but there are many others to take its place. I also had the opportunity to travel Central Pennsylvania, and fell in love with it. You live in a beautiful state. The ideal is to summer in Pennsylvania and winter in Savannah, if you can pull it off.

I have had the 35mm lens for a while and like it a lot. My uncertainty was about the 18-150mm lens and how sharp it is. I have it on order, and hope to get it next week. I’ll find out then, I guess. It appears to be a very versatile lens, and from the reviews I have read, the sharpness appears to be acceptable. I am aware that I’m getting a budget lens, and can’t expect perfection, so here’s hoping for the best.
Thanks, Dale

My bad on missing that your question on the 18-150mm. In general, the RF lens lineup compared to EF have improved sharpness, but may rely more on lens correction profiles for distortion compensation. I think folks will be interested in your opinion after you've had the change to put it through its paces.

For the first month or so, I like the winters in Central, PA. But that tends to wear off in mid-January. And by March, I just want Spring to arrive :). I love the ocean and spent a week in Florida this summer. It is amazing how the 80's in State College is too hot to me, but I'll endure the upper 90's along the ocean. Vacation mentality perhaps.

I can imagine the cabin fever gets pretty intense up there by about March. As long as we get a breeze, we can make it through the summer down here.

For what it’s worth, I’ll report my findings on the 18-150. It’s like getting a 3rd grader to review nuclear physics. I have looked at a blue million video reviews about the lens, and 99% of them just regurgitate specs. There have been just a few that have posted sample pics, and even fewer that have used it on an R50.

Thanks for the reply.

Hey SwampGrizz,
Fellow Savannahan here! Relocated from Austin TX a few years back. We have local chapter of the Georgia Nature Photographers Association here that meets at Oatland Island most months. We have field trips and occasional contests also. Check us out on FB (GNPA Coastal Chapter) and also on Meetup app.

Woodbadger,
Good to hear from you. I would be pleased to meet up with y’all sometime. I’m not on Facebook, and not familiar with Meetup, so I’ll check into Meetup so see how it works. If you would let me know when the next meeting is via this post, I’ll try to be there. Thanks for the invite. I look forward to it.

I donot know what the subject scheduled for November is yet. It is usually the 2nd Saturday of the month at 10:30 am at Oatland Island Wildlife Center. Last month wa a bit different schedule so not sure how that will chqnhe things. If you tell them at the gate that you are there for the meeting you do not have to pay admission.

Here is the generic link to the statewide organization.
I will try to remember to let you know once I here something is scheduled

Many thanks!
I’m going to be out of pocket on Saturday 11/8 (family reunion), so if I miss this one, I’ll for sure make December. I look forward to meeting folks and learning something new.

Welcome to the forum, Dale.

Thanks Bryan! Glad to be here. I think I finally found the community that I needed.
