I am excited to join this group! I just got an R7 and need to brush up on my photography skills from 20 yrs ago. Back then, it was mostly photos of children but I am now looking to photograph mostly wildlife, with a few travel photos every so often. I have been reading many threads and found some useful information already. I am taking a big trip in January and hoping to have some decent skills under my belt by then. I am retired and can practice most days BUT I currently live in a city and wildlife is few and far between. Pigeons, yes; seagulls, yes. I welcome any suggestions of ways to hone my skills a bit more.

Welcome to the forum Julie. If you have any parks in your city, you might have squirrels that you can photograph, I guess depending on your location. As far as honing your skills otherwise, I suppose the best way is to upload images, tell us what you like and don't like and ask questions. There are some really talented people here and some are primarily critter photographers.

Also, I know it isn't really "wild"life, if you have a zoo nearby you might be able to get some nice shots there. You can at least practice with your camera and find out what your limitations are and if you are being limited by your camera/lenses.

I have been using Canon DSLRs and now a mirrorless Canon since 2003 and I definitely learn new things very often by reading posts here, and asking questions. Also, I learn from videos on YouTube etc.

So, jump in....the people here are very nice and the water is warm.
