I was taking concert photos for years. My ideal camera was small enough that they would let me in a show with it. Then the pandemic hit and I found myself living at the lake. I started buying equipment to shoot birds and such at the lake. This year went up to the R5. It's all over my head but I've had some fun. We have otters from time to time! People tell me otters are bad or beavers are bad- we have both. Otters will eat all your fish they say. This lake has been here 50 some years, otters come and go and there are still plenty of fish!
These were taken with my 500mm canon lens right at sunrise so pretty low light. 1000 ISO to get a shutter of 1/640. One of the problems I can't seem to overcome is digital noise. Most of my pics are cropped because of distance. Most are taken around sunrise or sunset when these guys are moving around so the light is low, often taken in the shade

A great series of photos Don! I do love otters! They have eaten all of the fish in a local fishing pool, luckily I don't fish :) You'll always see noise when you start to crop in heavily unfortunately, even at lower ISOs. If there's a shot that I really like but I'm not happy with the noise, then I'll run in through Topaz DeNoise which usually cleans things up nicely.
