It does vary a lot depending on the size and speed of the bird, but yes typically 1/2000sec and above is a good place to start for birds in flight. Unless you are panning you'll probably get motion blue at 1/1000sec. 1/2000sec would increase your ISO here but the R5 can handle it comfortably and there's always DeNoise AI for when the noise gets a little too much.
 
R6 can as well?
 
More from the aussie learner. Spiders a failure but put it up anyway.

Hi Peter. Welcome to the group. How do you have your focus set up? Are you using BBF? People here might save you some time with suggestions if they know what you're working with. We have lots of members who do fantastic BIF images.
 
Using bbf focus yes, as per recommendations on here. Getting on well with it learning all the time.
rf 100 to 400 with 1.4 extender slows focus a bit.

pretty sure got camera set up how it should be correct af settings etc

Any advice welcome. F8 1/1600 auto iso perhaps 1/2000 would be better?
