I have to say I'm wondering about the direction Adobe is heading. This merger with Topaz. I see you can access both Sharpen and Denoise are available. I decided to give it a try. I tried again and it said my trial is over and I'd have to upgrade to a premium plan. I've never really cared that much about it as I still have Topaz Sharpen AI which I don't use very often. Not too many OOF files get past my first culls. It has to be pretty special top keep. Something I'll never get another chance at.
However now that Adobe has partnered with Topaz what is the future of their own Denoise AI? Why have two, an Adobe version and a Topaz version? I'm still OK with it but I owned a company why invest R&D into something that your partner specializes in. I have not used Topaz DeNoise AI in long time but I watch a lot of videos and some show mixed results. Adobe may not be the best but their first instalment did wake up the photo world. Personally I think that prompted DXO to rebuild DeepPrime from the ground up for PL8.
So the future of Adobe Denoise AI? They may leave it and currently it's pretty good - but will they keep training it? Things trickle down from PS and most likely direct access from LrC to the new Topaz apps will happen.
I think I can do quite well with Adobe's sharpening tools. It just takes me longer because they don't put deconvolution into their lens/corrections like DXO does. DXO has a USM tool but the I understand it's only there if your lens not on their list. Sharpen AI would speed things up a little more but I don't mind editing that part. It's kinda fun.
I do have a request. This a friendly so don't turn this into an Adobe slap-athon. Any companies can make any decisions they want to in this ever changing world. I don't get mad at companies, I don't just don't come back. I don't want get into why dislike DXO's business model and turned away from them. That is why I made this request.
So while I was hoping LrC would get Sharpen AI but I'm not too concerned. I am wondering about the future of Denoise AI. Adobe may not be the best but it's plenty for me. I rarely ever take or post a ISO 32,000 wildlife shot but I was doing some evening low light tests.
