Well, after lots of back and forth I finally got an R1... It's a lot of money after all.

To say I was a bit apprehensive at the "only" 24Mp sensor has delayed its purchase somewhat. I couldn't have been more wrong. What a beast of a camera!
The ISO performance alone is mind blowing which was the main reason I wanted the R1, as living here in the UK, an area famed for its tropical climate and bright sunny days... ( Its rained virtually every day in June so far) add to the fact I'm usually in some form of woodland at an ungodly hour of the morning worrying the local wildlife, I was often pushing the ISO on the R5 Mkii more than I liked, the R5Mkii isn't bad by any means in fact up until the R1 it was the best camera I've used. but even the few test shots I've taken in my back garden, boy does R1 handle high ISO well, add DXO Denoise ( and so far I've only used it above 25600 iso ) and LRC and we have a winner!!!

The added functionality like the new 2 stage AF-On button, the AF performance (I'd say a touch better than the R5MKii (but I still need to hone it to my liking)) and 3 back button focus just adds to the joy.

Will the 24mp sensor be an issue? No not really, I'll just have to get my fat arse closer! The trade off in ISO performance makes up for it. Or I'll dust off 5mkii.

On the down side...
It only took 3 hours to find out how to activate the custom functions... as Canon deactivate C2 and C3 from factory. But once I'd found where the pesky little developers at Canon had hidden it (Section 7 Restricted shooting modes) and after much swearing and YouTube, its simple to set up. I don't remember the having to activate it in the R5mkii but I could be wrong.

And its a brick! I'm not looking forward to lumping its weight when its attached to my 600 f4 around the country side.

Anyway, I joined this forum to get convinced the R1 was for me, and it did. So thank you.

I'm now looking forward to crap light and getting fitter lumping it around so I can push it to its limits.

The R50 is a fine entry level/beginner/casual stills camera. It is not a pro level camera, but would be fine for hiking, street, family photos...
