A brand new R6 MK2 arrived this morning. I charged the battery to 100%, green light, formatted the v90 SD card, and updated the firmware to 1.6. All good! The first sign of trouble was attempting to change the time zone after entering date and time - the screen went black. After turning the camera back on, the select a language page was presented, then the page to enter a password. Set! Next came a re-enter password page where entering one number caused the screen to go black. Turn off/turn on, rinse and repeat!!!

The B&H video chat person saw all of this in action, so it's on its way back. Days from now, I should receive a replacement.

Has anyone seen or heard of something like this before?

Ouch! I've not heard of any issues like that which inclines me to believe that it's a one-off firmware/software issue. Perhaps there was something not quite right with the firmware upgrade. I'm glad that B&H is taking care of it for and hope that a new, properly working sample, arrives soon.

After the dust of disappointment settled, my impression was that of some issue with the firmware upgrade. A brief preview of the camera seemed fine before the update. The instructions for eosr62-v160-mac were followed and the progress bar indicated success but who knows.

There were no issues with FW updates of the R8 and RF 24-105 f4/L; and over the years, updates to some devices connected to my computer.

When the new unit arrives, I'll not be in a hurry to update the FW. Most of what it offers isn't of benefit to me.

I bought a new R6 Mark II late last year and I didn't have any problems at all even with updating the firmware. I am a Windows user, so that is different. But, I am sure that there are thousands of R6 Mark II photographers who are Mac users, so if it were really a firmware issue it would have been well documented by now. I would not hesitate to update the firmware if needed.
