Hi, new to the forum and to photography in general.

I'm retiring in a few weeks so looking to combine photography with my love of spectating at motorcycle road-racing events. I will be doing some landscape/scenery type stuff as well.

Bought an R10 with the RF-s 18-150 & RF-s 18-45 and I'm slowly getting to grips with the technical side of things. I've added RF100-400, RF50 1.8 and RF 16 2.8 to the lens collection as I was offered them in a package deal from a friend. I'm really enjoying learning the differences between the capability of each lens. I'm fairly IT literate so I'm also enjoying playing in Lightroom and photoshop.

My biggest concern at the moment is making sure I don't damage my equipment carrying it on my motorcycle, any safeguarding/protection ideas would be appreciated.

I'm off to Iceland in a couple of weeks so hopefully will get a chance for some Northern Lights photos and then off to the Pyrenees and the Alps in May on the bike for some great landscape photography.

cheers for, Emlyn

Welcome Emlyn and thank you for joining up here. North Wales is a lovely place to live, certainly lots of options for stunning landscapes up there. I don't ride so I can't really offer any suggestions on the best bike bags I'm afraid, definitely something waterproof though! It sounds like you have some fantastic trips planned for this year, it will be great to see some of the images you capture along the way. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement too! :)

Welcome to the forum Emlyn. I am also not a rider, maybe someone else will have some suggestions.

I'm in North Wales too! Best place on earth !!!
When I go on foreign trips my concern is about how much gear I am allowed to take on a plane which I guess is loads compared to travelling on a bike although I have no experience of the latter. Well padded for protection for starters but then what about storage, are you going to rely on memory cards or do you plan taking a laptop , hard drive etc etc? What about a tripod, chargers, socket banks? I usually take 10 kgs of hand luggage all of which is electrical gear and the more robust stuff is in the hold allowance.
Take care on the roads on your bike though, I'm sure you are more than aware what the average age of a bike fatality is in North Wales....and there are many of them too as it's a favoured day's outing from England to get out on the country roads we have here.

Welcome to the forum. Only been to northern Wales once, I think we stayed in LLanberis. My wife had a work assignment down in Pembroke that lasted 2 months. She went to work every day and I drove around the countryside taking pictures. We tried to get away to other parts of Wales on the weekends. Really loved Wales.
