Full Moon Over DC Monuments in the month of February 2024. Waited for Moon to rise just above the Washington Monument.

This little restaurant was just a block or so from Trevi Fountain in Rome. We stumbled in it by accident really. It was so awesome. Ate there twice. :) Great food and the owner came out to see how we were doing. He didn't speak much English and my Italian was pretty limited so just a lot of head shaking lol. Loved it.

How about instead of “after dark”, we consider “before light”? This is a full color image of Witches paddle boarding with their “brooms” before first light one foggy morning. Spooky!

They must have all melted shortly after this photo was taken.

The Longfellow Bridge with downtown Boston in the background. The LCD lighting of the refurbished bridge is normally colored blue, but is modified to commemorate different events. The bridge was lit this night red (visible) and orange (non-visible other half of the bridge) as part of National Hispanic Heritage month activities. The gold dome on the left is the top of the Massachusetts State House.

The bridge across the Sacramento River at Rio Vista, California. Wind from the Pacific funnels up the river delta, making the area an American windsurfing destination.

Deep Into the Night - Orion Nebula

First time trying something beyond photographing the Sun and the Moon.

I don't have a star tracker, so I needed to stack 43 of the 220 images taken. (Culling out the camera shake and poor quality images).

Actual time was 0.8 seconds to keep the trails to a minimum

Well done and thank you to everyone who entered and voted in our competition this month. As always, we've had some brilliant entries!
  • 1st place with 8 votes was @AOC with a very nicely timed shot of the full moon over the Washington Monument. Definitely worth the wait Art!
  • 2nd place with 7 votes was @PKM-UK with a gorgeous shot of Portmeirion, Penrhyndeudraeth, Gwynedd, North Wales. Great shot Phil & Karen. I did think this was somewhere in Spain for a moment :)
  • 3rd place with 6 votes was @dgphoto8 with a cracking night shot of the Longfellow Bridge with downtown Boston in the background. Superbly captured Don!
The theme for our competition this month will be "Your Favorite Shot of 2025" which will be starting shortly.
