I have a quick question...

Is there a reason why upon fw update being completed, the camera then requests a new password to be set?

I dont know whether this was the correct process, but I had to set a 6-digit password and reconfirm it in order to get to the main menu to show once more.

Then I went into menu #6 and disabled the password features that I never had enabled to begin with.

Is this normal Canon practice for a fw update? This is the first one I have done on my R6 Mkii.
Also what I felt was a bit of a pain is the password entry seems to have a timeout feature so if you are not quick enough to enter the 6 digits, the pwd set up has to be redone from scratch.

They added password protection on previous firmware (1.6). It wasn't on this one. You can see other people complain about it on the web: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JggVDJdIOUI

Me personally, I just disabled the password verification:
If you want to disable the password option: Turn your camera off wait a few seconds and turn it back on. The camera will turn on with a window asking for your password and below it a check box stating [ ] "Do not ask again". Enter your password then check the box [x] Do not ask again, then hit OK. Your camera will turn on as usual. Turn the camera Off wait a second then turn your camera back On and this time it will not ask you for a password.

Yes! that's exactly what I did to return to the original stats quo. I was just surprised the fw update enabled it to begin with.

Just a quick update:

I subsequently contacted Canon about this and apparently in the latest firmware now being made available for selected cameras , Canon is now required by European law to meet EU RED EN 18031 which is a cyber security regulation designed to protect data and privacy, mainly through the camera being able to be connected to external networks (via Wifi, Bluetooth connections).

More info from Canon here: EU RED EN 18031 for Canon cameras

Since I dont use these network connections and transfer my images by removing the SD card and inserting/uploading them into my PC through more traditional means, I disabled this password function.

I did suggest Canon consider 2 improvements:

a) please extend the timeout when entering the password and confirmation. For me it was way too short to accomplish both within the required timeframe. I dont have the fastest co-ordination with my fingers these days!

b) its not completely intuitive (in my view) that you need to enter 6 digits for the password and there’s no error or warning if you enter less digits so I can imagine for some users they are left in a preverbial endless loop.
