Seven months ago I purchased an R7 as a backup for my R6II (same batteries). I recently got back from an overseas trip where I used both my R6II and my R7.

9 out of 10 pics I took with my R7 had focus issues. Despite using AF tracking and taking only single shots (no high speed bursts at all), my focus was not on my subjects. It's like the focal point was inches behind the subject that my focus bracket was on.

I didn't have this issue with my R6II (both cameras were set to the same exact settings).

I did some research, and it turns out others are having issues with this as well (but only when capturing high speed bursts).

So, I sold it today. I liked the shape, ergonomics and general design of the R7, but the AF being off was a deal breaker for me.

Thanks to the lack of enthusiasm on behalf of the camera store salesman, I decided to order something completely different with the money I got from the sale of my R7.

Have you ever purchased a camera you thought would be great but ended up being disappointed instead?

Yes. And it was the Canon R7. The R6 was so much better! And I love the R5II.

My experience is that the R7 focuses very well with subjects that are big in the frame. For distant subjects and for some particular kinds of subject (like animals with eyes set in a black head or band), focus can be very unreliable. For those, there will often be failures - or take 20 shots and one or two might be in focus.

Despite its drawbacks, the R7 is the most productive camera I have ever owned. I use it for birding and macro, leaving my R5 behind on a shelf.

I'll be one of the first in line for the R7 II.

I had good success with my R7 but I since the first click I never liked that thumping shutter. I shot in ES all of the time. While I had success with it and my 1100-500 and 1.4 I took the TC off for a year and my keeper rate jumped way up.

I sold it in the spring as an experiment to see what life is like with only a FF so like you I've been only using my R6II. I am getting the R6III and when/if an R7II comes out I'll have a look at it. I won't rush in on that one.

I don't have R6III but RAW files are available and LrC/ACR supports them.
