So, how many of you will buy the R5 Mk II in the near future?

I have an R5 and it does it's job well, I grab the R6 MkII more often if there is even a remote possibility of low light. I looked at the benefits of the R5 MkII, the 5000+ focus points is a bonus, but the examples I viewed at higher ISO, there didn't appear to be much improvement over the original.

I picked up an R3 and I'm very pleased with the addition. The ergonomics and extra battery life, better low light capabilities and sticky tracking fit the bill for me. It's a shame that the R1 and R5 MkII have most likely pushed the R3 out of the lineup.

So the question is, how many of you will purchase the R5 Mk II...

  1. Right away (on the waiting list)
  2. Soon, within the next 12 months
  3. I will get one, but it will be awhile
  4. I do not intend to purchase the R5 Mk II
Perfectly satisfied with my 2-R5’s.

I've had one on back order since 16th August. No sign of it yet. I heard there was a shortage of batteries so I thought I'd better get in the queue now rather than later. The battery arrived today but no camera. Typical!!!
Likely the result of not preordering. When I picked mine up on August 20th they told me that, "Canon truly took care of us on this one", and they had, "more than enough for the preorders when they arrived 4 weeks ago". They'd sold the rest before the release date, but for those who really wanted them they had them and then some. Canon knew this was going to be popular so they did a big first run. With the R1 due it's hard to say when the second wave will hit, but it's only been a month. Hope your wait isn't too bad. At least it should be nothing like the 200-800mm. ;)

I have had since 21st August with spare battery and hot shoe adaptor. Decided to order another battery just under two weeks ago which was showing expected delivery 27th September. Today received an email to say it's already been dispatched to arrive tomorrow.

FYI, I just saw a stock notice for B&H here in the states, so it seems like the second wave is shipping.

I'm probably somewhere between 3 and 4 on your list. At present I have no plans to upgrade as I'm really very happy with my R5 for what I mostly shoot. That said, never say never. I could see myself getting the Mark II down the road when I might pick one up used at a much reduced price. In the mean time, I prefer to spend my expendable cash (what little there is ;) ) on glass. There are several lenses I have on my bucket list that would take precedence over "upgrading" my body.

I have no intention of buying an R5 Mk II. I waited patiently for months (years?) for the Mk II to be released, so that I could replace one of my 5D bodies and finally make the move into mirrorless. Sick of waiting, and disappointed with the rumoured specs, last September I bought a second-hand R5.

This year, for many reasons, I decided to replace my last 5D with a 5D Mk II but, once the final specs had been released, I decided not to bother, as they were still so disappointing. Then the chance of a nearly-new R3 came up, so I went with that.

Barring breakages, the R3 will be my last camera purchase. Unless, of course, Canon release something really spectacular , one my bank balance has had time to recover...
