This is the first time I've shot thoroughbred races with my EOS R and I'm not impressed at all. It's really hard keeping the horses framed because there seems to be a lag when you're shooting something as fast thoroughbred. I also don't like the touch screen focal points because it's to easy to inadvertently touch the screen. I wish there was away to disable the touch screen then reenable the touch screen when you want the touch screen. I'll stick with my 7DII when shooting the thoroughbred.

Some nice shots Paul even with your struggles with the EOS R. I get annoyed by the touch screen on my R5 as well, I don't think you can assign a custom button to turn it on/off but you can add that function to a custom menu, although that still needs a few clicks to get to. If I don't need the screen too much I'll just flip it over.

Thanks Timothy for the reply. I never thought of flipping the screen. I'll have to try that. The touch screen is a great idea but I can't understand why there isn't away to turn it off and on.

There are some really nice shots there. I would love to have the chance to shoot thoroughbreds! I had lots of trouble with my R shooting anything that moved quickly. The viewfinder always seemed to lag, even with the latest firmware updates. I too never thought of just turning the screen around when it was giving me trouble. I haven't had that problem with the R5 so far, but I will keep it mind.

Hi Hali, Thanks for the complement. For me the EOS R is difficult to use when shooting sports and you're correct about the lag time. Turning the screen is one option but I like to view the screen after shooting and having to flip the screen back and forth would get old really quick. I hope your R5 would out for you.
