wedding last night

Had a wedding last and was a long drive 3.5 hours google maps at it 4 hours like to get there half hour before start time,so we arrived way early.

Wandered in only 3 people there 2 photographers. Sony latest greatest she said few months old.

Can I do a few images she said sure I said.

Could help but notice during night she manually focused seemingly every image.

Got nerve and asked her at end of night yes I do dont trust auto focus for weddings.

Normal behaviour for wedding photographers? Or just a perfectionist? Thought auto focus on all brands pretty darn good nowadays?

Not one I have heard of, I will re focus if I need to, but normally shoot 2 images in quick succession sometimes with a zoom change. Last wedding I shot i registered the bride and groom with the people priority and seemed to have no issues and very few images that were not spot on.

I don't like people, so I don't photograph them, but...

I imagine the photographer knows their camera inside and out, so perhaps that particular model, or model/lens combo, has issues with AF. Latest and greatest could be the A 7R VI, A1 II, FX5, or even an A6400. Really depends on the photographers opinion. Perhaps they are using a third-party lens that produces great quality photos, but doesn't play nice with AF.


Personally, I shoot MF most of the time. For moving subjects I use AF to catch the DoF and switch to MF and recompose and predict.
