It has been literally decades since I've attempted any fireworks pics... If I'm lucky, I'll be in a prime spot to capture the 4th of July display in Washington DC next week. If not lucky, I'll likely be watching the display in my local community... So. What words of wisdom can you offer to capture wonderful pics? Which lens? Shutter speed? Exposure time? ISO? Please lend me your wisdom! TIA!
Hi - is it possible to transfer images direct from an R7 to an external SSD - i.e. without putting the card into a computer first and then dragging the images to the SSD? Thank you Andy
Anyone use the function. Been playing with it barely see any difference at this stage. Wondering lightning photography if it would make a difference. Increased noise apparently maybe but can be fixed post.
See canon prices increased in USA result of tariffs. Used R6ii for example and B&H as company, R6ii is $355 US dollars cheaper in australia. Europe might be even cheaper. Wonder if its gonna affect even stuff like "imported" software compared to American adobe. Also get a cheap airfare to EU somewhere wouldn't take long to save cost of air fare if you bought top end camera and lens for American buyers.
A chap I know mid 60s loves his canon r5 more camera than he will ever need he reckons complicated but not to complicated. Anyway he took a R5II for a spin was non plussed. His comment what do I get in 5 years time when my r5 dies camera will be to fancy and techy for me by then someone suggested well buy another r5 and store it for later use he went away thought about and he did. Canon will be out of new r5s eventually still available here in oz at good price
Thread 'The new Remove Reflections AI tool in Adobe Lightroom is pretty good'
In one of the photo-related groups I am in on Facebook, a lady asked if anyone could help fix the lens flare in some pictures of her and her family at the Little League World Series where her son had competed. Most people don't realize how dirty and smudged the lens on a smartphone gets. So the flare from the field lights really messed up the pictures. I love a good challenge so I downloaded them, imported into Lightroom and went to work. I made basic adjustments to exposure, contrast...
Hello everyone, I've noticed recently that when my R3 displays the image in the viewfinder (pressing the playback button), it only displays the image briefly and then immediately switches back to the normal viewfinder image for taking photos. I usually see the displayed photo for a very short time and then it switches to the normal viewfinder image. I don‘t use the monitor, it is always closed. I didn't touch a button, so that can't be it. It's noticeable that this happens to me in...
First, this is in NO way intended to knock the f/2.8 version, which I am certain is a fantastic lens. Just food for thought for anyone still deciding which version to get. I think the bottom line is to consider your most frequent use cases. When I decided to sell my EF version of the 70-200, to get an RF version for my R5, I really struggled with whether to get the RF 70-200 f/2.8 or the F/4 version. Yes, the f/2.8 was more expensive, but that fact really had little bearing on my...
Is there any way I can fix the focus point in the centre of the screen for all options on the mode dial on an R7? In other words, no matter what shooting option I use, the focus remains fixed in the centre of the screen Thanks
Dropping in price here up to $600 Australian something brewing perhaps
It will come without the need to create a DNG when using Denoise AI, similar to ACR. Finally. Several other goodies as well. Info is just starting to leak out here and there but no official announcement yet. Might be a few more days.
Thread 'Phew Insurance'
Had a incident chasing tornadoes appears rf 70/200 L got a nasty scratch right in centre of lens and another to outside $1000/1200 the quote to replace outer element. Travel insurance will cover it Edit so I had to use rf 100-400 just didnt acquire focus as well but worked it out to a ok level son playing football on a very rainy day Weird artefacts in pic one hand near his knee and his boot
I recently had the bit of cerebral flatulence that I ought to try and recreate what I believe to be my first photo. In 1979, I bought my first camera - a Yashica FX3. I immediately went to a nearby county park and took an image of a waterfall. (🙄) I took the film in for processing and anxiously awaited the return of my pictures… When they came back, they were flat, mushy and boring. 😢 Yesterday I went to the same park to try and take the same shot again - this time with an R5 and a 50mm...
I have some bursts that I took with the R3 that I'd like to make a video out of. These are RAWs at 195 FPS but they are not in a RAW Burst. Doesn't look like there is a way in DPP to make a movie from them. I do have an old copy of Photoshop, so making an animated GIF is a possibility. Are there any other common options? I see there's a way to do it in iMovie but I don't know how fast they can switch.
Thread 'Mac Mini filter'
Most likely not recommended but I decided to filter my new Mac Mini. Since dropping Amazon it has been more challenging to procure items. I got mine from Ebay UK which cost me a bit more. Here is the Amazon link. https://www.amazon.com/Lvseeman-Suitable-Dissipation-Accessories-Aluminum/dp/B0DSBTWYMT It came with an extra screen so I can swap it out monthly for cleaning or if I notice the temps go up. I did get an app to monitor temperature. I didn't want to control the fan speed, just...
Astro shots lightning shots I rely on focus peaking and or the 3 point focus guide. But struggle with glasses at times anyone use Loupe tools Magnifying tools for precise focusing? Som are eye pieces jewellers loupes other full viewfinder screen width. $30 to 300
Thread 'Canon R5 Mark II EV'
The specs on the Canon USA page list the EV for the Canon R5 Mark II at -7.5. Looking through the HTML instruction manual reveals the EV to be -6.5 in the specs page. Anyone have any insight into which number is correct? I have been trying to see if a firmware update might be the answer. I am preparing to purchase some Canon gear and noticed the discrepancy.
Thread 'My Main R100 Dislike. Flash Button.'
I have had my R100 body for a few months now. I'm sure I will upgrade someday, but it does everything it is supposed to do well and has met my expectations. I have no regrets. One thing routinely annoys me. I have large hands, and with the smaller R100 body, I frequently bump the Flash Button with the heel of my hand. I rarely, if ever, use the flash. I recently found a solution, and the problem has been eliminated! On some camera function buttons, Flash is one of them. In the options to...
Thread 'autofocus settings when shooting moving subjects in low light/contrast'
hey all, i've been shooting with two R5 since Sept '22 and I am still flummoxed occasionally by the AF of the camera. when the light is good, AF eye focus is unbeatable, but i mainly shoot musicians and the combo of crappy and unpredictable stage lighting and performers' motion, coupled with long hair that can obscure faces and/or higher contrast items in the frame like mic stands means that the camera sometimes assigns the AF point to the wrong thing. i've got my AF-ON button set to Eye AF...
I dont but often considered them. Thought gimmicky when they first came out say 10/15 yrs ago but sure they've caught up now in quality and actual practicality.
