Thread 'Since you guys were less-than-helpful…😝'
…when I asked about ground level tripods, I was forced to conjure up my own solution: It’s not perfect - not crazy about “hanging the camera from the hot shoe” and it’s not overly rigid, but it’ll do, for now. I wouldn’t trust it for anything above about 2” off the ground, but that’s not the intended use. I might make a metal version later on or I might make an Arca Swiss mount that extends out then down, then forks out either side of the lens and then attaches to a plate mounted the...

As you guys I damaged lens a serious scratch almost a chip. Travel Insurance is covering it in full but had a call, more information required. As it turned out the lady was a hobbyist photographer as well. She asked did you have a UV filter or a lens hood at time of incident I said yes lens hood only. Ah good you will be fine but time will come you may well need both or insurance may be refused or reduced or excess applied. One could argue insurance companies always looking for a out...
Points in focus. Hes one you tuber thats been invaluable source of information in my canon photography journey thus far. Just facts tutorials tips with no BS Regardless of R model one has there's info for all https://www.youtube.com/@pointsinfocus
Many of my photos are taken serendipitously while I'm driving, taking short hikes, or simply exploring the yard. I don't have a large assortment of lenses, but I use the RF-S55-210mm kit lens the most. That focal length range is flexible for my R100 and the things I like to photograph. I've been considering a higher-quality lens in a similar range, but I'll rent one first to decide if it's worth the expense. That said, I am curious. What's your go-to lens for walking around? The one you...

Thread 'First time out: RF mount Laowa 4mm f/2.8 210° circular fisheye'
I recently stumbled on a used copy of an RF version of the Laowa 4mm f/2.8 210° Circular Fisheye lens for APS-C cameras. I had a Sigma 4.5mm circular fisheye briefly pass through the quiver several years ago, and I kinda missed that lens. I found the Laowa lens at a "why not?" price so I decided to give it a go. Right off the bat I ran into 2 hurdles; one small, one not so small. First, this lens it totally manual, a first for me. It focuses manually and you set the aperture manually...
Thread 'First Outing With Canon EOS R10 and a question about what to carry it in.'
Until now my carry-around camera has been a Ricoh GRII. On the plus side it is small and light with an APS-C sensor, a sharp lens, and IBIS. On the negative side it doesn't have a viewfinder. In bright light or even not so bright light, I can't see image in the LCD. One thing I knew was that I was not going to take my R6 on holiday because it's too heavy at 680g. I tried an R50 and now I have settled on an R10. I will marry it with a 16mm or a 28mm - and the only puzzle left is what to...
I have one of these little guys and it works well for a lot of low level photos...but in some cases it doesn't go low enough. I CAN reverse the center column on my regular tripod, but that means working upside down...and I'm not even competent working right side up. I searched for "ground level tripods" and got some strange results that weren't what I was looking for, as well as the Ground Pod. The GP is kind of the right idea, but I really don't want to carry a trash can lid around with...
I have been trialing the RF 100mm macro L as a macro lens photographing butterflies, and the results are impressive. I also have the EF 100 macro 2.8 non L. I'm interested in buying the RF, but I'm put off by the reports of focus shift. How to I know if I'm getting the best result? I've tried handheld focus bracketing, with variable results but some look good. Should I stick with the EF (and save some money!!) or go with the RF with its 1.4 capability? Derek Clements
It has been literally decades since I've attempted any fireworks pics... If I'm lucky, I'll be in a prime spot to capture the 4th of July display in Washington DC next week. If not lucky, I'll likely be watching the display in my local community... So. What words of wisdom can you offer to capture wonderful pics? Which lens? Shutter speed? Exposure time? ISO? Please lend me your wisdom! TIA!
Hi - is it possible to transfer images direct from an R7 to an external SSD - i.e. without putting the card into a computer first and then dragging the images to the SSD? Thank you Andy
Anyone use the function. Been playing with it barely see any difference at this stage. Wondering lightning photography if it would make a difference. Increased noise apparently maybe but can be fixed post.
See canon prices increased in USA result of tariffs. Used R6ii for example and B&H as company, R6ii is $355 US dollars cheaper in australia. Europe might be even cheaper. Wonder if its gonna affect even stuff like "imported" software compared to American adobe. Also get a cheap airfare to EU somewhere wouldn't take long to save cost of air fare if you bought top end camera and lens for American buyers.
A chap I know mid 60s loves his canon r5 more camera than he will ever need he reckons complicated but not to complicated. Anyway he took a R5II for a spin was non plussed. His comment what do I get in 5 years time when my r5 dies camera will be to fancy and techy for me by then someone suggested well buy another r5 and store it for later use he went away thought about and he did. Canon will be out of new r5s eventually still available here in oz at good price
Thread 'The new Remove Reflections AI tool in Adobe Lightroom is pretty good'
In one of the photo-related groups I am in on Facebook, a lady asked if anyone could help fix the lens flare in some pictures of her and her family at the Little League World Series where her son had competed. Most people don't realize how dirty and smudged the lens on a smartphone gets. So the flare from the field lights really messed up the pictures. I love a good challenge so I downloaded them, imported into Lightroom and went to work. I made basic adjustments to exposure, contrast...
Hello everyone, I've noticed recently that when my R3 displays the image in the viewfinder (pressing the playback button), it only displays the image briefly and then immediately switches back to the normal viewfinder image for taking photos. I usually see the displayed photo for a very short time and then it switches to the normal viewfinder image. I don‘t use the monitor, it is always closed. I didn't touch a button, so that can't be it. It's noticeable that this happens to me in...
First, this is in NO way intended to knock the f/2.8 version, which I am certain is a fantastic lens. Just food for thought for anyone still deciding which version to get. I think the bottom line is to consider your most frequent use cases. When I decided to sell my EF version of the 70-200, to get an RF version for my R5, I really struggled with whether to get the RF 70-200 f/2.8 or the F/4 version. Yes, the f/2.8 was more expensive, but that fact really had little bearing on my...
Is there any way I can fix the focus point in the centre of the screen for all options on the mode dial on an R7? In other words, no matter what shooting option I use, the focus remains fixed in the centre of the screen Thanks
