Thread 'Morning photo – Looking for your thoughts'
Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some feedback on this photo I recently took. I’m curious to hear any critique, comments, or advice you might have. Should I change something? Is anything off about the composition, colors, or editing? Or maybe the photo feels boring or too simple? Any thoughts are welcome — positive or negative. Thanks in advance for taking the time to look and share your perspective! 🙏
Thread 'Tripod shake or building shake?'
I've been looking for vantage points in the city of Sacramento, and tonight I found a 5-level parking garage that overlooks downtown. The foreground was pretty terrible, but I spent an hour there because why not. It wasn't windy, but there was an occasional breeze. I noticed that the in-camera level was erratic so I used a 10-second shutter delay to let the camera settle down. Upon examination at home, I was surprised by how many shots were unusable. The examples below are un-cropped and...
This is the first product review I've ever done and I don't do unboxing videos. But someone recently asked about shoulder bags so I thought I'd do this review. I had no idea it would end up at 27 minutes! Bottom line: the Nanuk N-PVD 15L is the superior bag, but don't pay full retail $220. B&H and Adorama both have it for $150-ish. https://youtu.be/AOcVfHScLD4
So.... I turned 61 this year and retirement is 3 years, 1 month and 14 days away (not that I'm counting). As long as the economy and my retirement funds cooperate (and assuming no intervention by the Lottery Gods), I'm starting to plan for the retirement adventures that lay ahead. There are many sights I have not seen in Northern America. Acadia National Park. The Grand Canyon. Denali in Alaska. Banff in Canada (assuming the Canadians are still speaking to us Yanks). And so on. But I want...
B&H Deal Zone has what might be the best price I've ever seen for a CF tripod. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1646169-REG/benro_hydra2_induro_hydra_2_waterproof.html
Interesting comparison. Hover over red arrow and or change ISO https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Camera-Noise.aspx?Camera=1750&Test=7&ISO=51200&CameraComp=1633&TestComp=0&ISOComp=51200
Hello everyone! Short version: Have you regretted moving away from crop sensors to full frame (optionally with a TC) if you only can have (or want) 1 body? Long version to give you an idea of my interests/use cases: My wife and I like to take "adventure" vacations (ie the kinda vacation you don't actually rest but hike 10-20 miles a day) and were frustrated by photos. After some reviews on starter wildlife kits (and childhood brainwashing by my dad who bought Canon everything) I landed...
I am seriously contemplating the purchase of a Canon 100-500L lens to go with my R6 MKII soon. Would like some recommendations for a shoulder bag for that combo. Right now I have a Tamrac 517 which is a few inches too short but that is the style bag I am seeking. Please help. Thanks, Mike.
Seven months ago I purchased an R7 as a backup for my R6II (same batteries). I recently got back from an overseas trip where I used both my R6II and my R7. 9 out of 10 pics I took with my R7 had focus issues. Despite using AF tracking and taking only single shots (no high speed bursts at all), my focus was not on my subjects. It's like the focal point was inches behind the subject that my focus bracket was on. I didn't have this issue with my R6II (both cameras were set to the same...
I'm about 1/10th full on my 2TB SSD Primary Drive and 1/3rd on my 2TB Secondary Drive (Photos Only). I have been "storing" some photos on a couple old SATA Drives scavenged for bad laptops from years ago. I am thinking of getting a 4 TB SSD (external drive) and my connectivity ports are: Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Type-C What are your recommendations...especially which to stay away from!
Just curious if anyone else has preordered the new Canon 45mm f/1.2 ? After watching several reviews of the preproduction model from reviewers I trust, I went ahead and preordered this lens. I recognize it has some shortcomings, but seems like a good value.
Thread 'Camera Settings Don't Matter'
I was trying to explain in a Beginning Photographers Facebook group (please, don't judge me) that it doesn't matter what your cameras setting are because you can get a good exposure by either adding or subtracting light. This was in response to a post asking why their photos weren't coming out with these settings. Albeit, I don't think this would have been my first choice of settings.
Just got the 18-150 lens today for my R50, and will be trying it out soon. Any tips, tricks, suggestions? Anything I need to look out for? All ideas will be greatly appreciated.
I was at a local (non-camera) store and, of course, I found myself in the very small consumer camera section. I picked up the R50 and was immediately glad it had an iron tether bolting it to the display. That tiny little thing almost went flying. I can't believe there are people that can comfortably hold that tiny little thing. I noticed the R100 as well, but I didn't want to take a chance of tossing it through the ceiling by accident. I could see myself holding it by the barrel of my...
Tether Tools is having a Black Friday sale. Of interest to me is the Onsite Relay camera power system (AC and USB A or C) that's a whopping 58% off. Put the power bank in a weatherproof cover and Bob's your uncle. Unfortunately, the LP-E6P dummy battery coupler for the R52 is not in stock, and I can't find one at TT, B&H, Adorama, or Amazon (but Adorama has the LP-E6 coupler for $35). Also, the TT website has the couplers on a 50% clearance sale. Why would that be? New models coming out...
Thread 'Calendar Shot'
A local company runs a calendar contest each year. They claim they get over 500 entries each year. For the fourth year in a row I placed a picture in the calendar. :) Here's a look at my January 2026 winner - These help explain to my kids why I spend so much of their inheritance on gear.
Hi, I have been using C R6 mk II for more than a year and I found, that during long exposures, there are a lot of hot pixels on the images. Around of 100 pixels are dead. Is it normal or should I send it to repair? Do you think that they only map the hot pixels and the camera then only does not see them?
I like my EF300 IS and of course I would like it to zoom. Who wouldn't? The 100-300 would be fantastic but I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a hobby, so I've been looking (again) at the Sigma 120-300 Sports. Hard to imagine that this 3rd-gen lens is 12 years old at this point. Bryan does a pretty good job of describing the evolution of this lens on his great website. Overall the reviews are quite positive although I think someone mentioned that the substantial weight is quite far...
