Thread 'Camera Settings Don't Matter'
I was trying to explain in a Beginning Photographers Facebook group (please, don't judge me) that it doesn't matter what your cameras setting are because you can get a good exposure by either adding or subtracting light. This was in response to a post asking why their photos weren't coming out with these settings. Albeit, I don't think this would have been my first choice of settings.
Just got the 18-150 lens today for my R50, and will be trying it out soon. Any tips, tricks, suggestions? Anything I need to look out for? All ideas will be greatly appreciated.
I was at a local (non-camera) store and, of course, I found myself in the very small consumer camera section. I picked up the R50 and was immediately glad it had an iron tether bolting it to the display. That tiny little thing almost went flying. I can't believe there are people that can comfortably hold that tiny little thing. I noticed the R100 as well, but I didn't want to take a chance of tossing it through the ceiling by accident. I could see myself holding it by the barrel of my...
Tether Tools is having a Black Friday sale. Of interest to me is the Onsite Relay camera power system (AC and USB A or C) that's a whopping 58% off. Put the power bank in a weatherproof cover and Bob's your uncle. Unfortunately, the LP-E6P dummy battery coupler for the R52 is not in stock, and I can't find one at TT, B&H, Adorama, or Amazon (but Adorama has the LP-E6 coupler for $35). Also, the TT website has the couplers on a 50% clearance sale. Why would that be? New models coming out...
Thread 'Calendar Shot'
A local company runs a calendar contest each year. They claim they get over 500 entries each year. For the fourth year in a row I placed a picture in the calendar. :) Here's a look at my January 2026 winner - These help explain to my kids why I spend so much of their inheritance on gear.
Hi, I have been using C R6 mk II for more than a year and I found, that during long exposures, there are a lot of hot pixels on the images. Around of 100 pixels are dead. Is it normal or should I send it to repair? Do you think that they only map the hot pixels and the camera then only does not see them?
I like my EF300 IS and of course I would like it to zoom. Who wouldn't? The 100-300 would be fantastic but I'm not going to spend that kind of money on a hobby, so I've been looking (again) at the Sigma 120-300 Sports. Hard to imagine that this 3rd-gen lens is 12 years old at this point. Bryan does a pretty good job of describing the evolution of this lens on his great website. Overall the reviews are quite positive although I think someone mentioned that the substantial weight is quite far...
For time lapse weather photography. Looking for a dummy battery set up for R5 see many available and do they plug into any type of power bank? Doesnt seem to be any kits dummy battery and power ankles for it. Presume strap it tripod or have it on ground in a container. They range from dirt cheap to quite expensive, buy nice not twice is my plan thanks for help all

Hey since firmware version 1.7.0 and 1.7.1 has anyone notice more issues with their R7? Freezing, turning it on and it's somewhat dark and non responsive. The shutter issue being non responsive if you have back button focus setup with AF on? I am thinking about going back to 1.6 to see if the issues go away.

The very first images from the new-to-me 10-20mm, unedited, transferred to my phone and uploaded. I’m going to love this lens.
Thread 'Canon RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens'
This is one of the kit lens options with the R10 in the UK. The R10 is my first "proper "camera after years of point-and- shoot, and this lens is my first/only one, so I don't have any comparison - but I think it's pretty good. (The pictures also reflect me still learning all the technicalities of photography). Cloudy landscape, no post production.
This forum came to life because of dpreview's original closure. dpreview's resurrection was a surprise. Now that dpreview is switching platforms, a new opportunity may exist. I preferred the threaded format of the legacy dpreview.com, but that format's support appears to be dying and perhaps with it, dpreview's forum popularity and dominance. Many users here participate in both, myself included. So, lets not ignore the 500lb gorilla in the forum. Personally, I prefer the threaded view...
So, I've been on a binge lately and an RF 10-20mm f/4 mysteriously landed on my porch this week. Needing some inspiration for how to shoot with it, I stumbled on this article from a few years ago. Maybe I should take just this one lens to Europe this year... https://fstoppers.com/landscapes/shooting-landscape-images-10mm-full-frame-lens-355971

Looking at the "maybe" specs for this camera, have they fixed the rolling shutter issue you think? I want to get the R6 III and R7II and shoot just electric shutter, currently with my r7 for sports with bats and ball I shoot EFC because of rolling shutter. If the R7 mark II is rumored to have E-shutter only, I am assuming it's fixed. For the r6 mark iii not sure why you would release it with a rolling shutter issue.

Thread 'The travel question'
Over the years - and there have been many of them, which is increasingly relevant - I've adopted a few different approaches to image-making while travelling. If it's been business, and/or I've needed pix for publication or other use, then it's been pretty straightforward: take "best" camera and selection of "best" lenses and deal with the logistics. Family holidays are a lot more relaxed, but I still want images for posterity so will err on the side of quality and flexibility. Road trips...
