I dont but often considered them. Thought gimmicky when they first came out say 10/15 yrs ago but sure they've caught up now in quality and actual practicality.
Hi to one and all. After returning to photography after a very long lay off due to ill health, I treated myself to an R7 and RF 100-400, which I'm very happy with, but still learning some of the settings for the camera. I am in the market for a replacement for my EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6. I'm looking for a faster lens, not only for general landscapes, but for astrophotography. I have researched and researched and this lens keeps coming and with some very good reviews, and it's the Tamron...
Looking to start recording videos with my R7. There are Movie settings on the RED menu Tab 10 when in photo mode. When setting custom config (C1-C3) these are saved. However, there are also separate menus for video when in video mode. This can be saved to the C(v)1-3 configs. These do NOT appear to override the saved RED tab 10 C1-3 settings! I read somewhere that when in photo mode just pressing the red record button on top uses the settings in the C(v)3 custom config. I assume that when...
😮 As we look to cement UK-US relations (at least in our family) it's looking like we will be shortly visiting the US for the first time. (The plan is sketchy and fluid, but we should be looking at 2-3 days exploring Boston ahead of a 5 day chill down in Orlando). Suggestions for interesting venues to consider visiting in either location are invited along with any 'how to survive the US' tips. (We have done a fair amount of world travel - though it's been a while now as we hunkered down...
I finally got my camera back from Canon. They were able to replicate my issue with the camera firing after I take my finger off the shutter button as described in previous posts. The repair ticket states under Service Details: "Your product was examined. We are aware of the issue accruing with the shutter and is being investigated. Currently there is no fix for this issue, we are working to provide a solution. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused. Thank you...

Thread 'Adjusting the Background in Photoshop'
I recently published an article exploring ways to add more blur or replace the background on flora photographs. I am posting a couple of photos, before and after, as examples. If interested, you can find it on the following link. https://www.keptlight.com/simple-background-fixes-in-photoshop/
After a real 'rookie error' at the last race meeting where I didn't factor in the sun position I ended up with a lot of shots with the windscreen's blown out completely - after 16 years I have taken the plunge and bought a CPL filter for the RF100-300 - a 112mm monster . . . . still not sure how or if it will work as expected but time will tell - no racing for a couple of weeks. So question for the guys that do use a CPL. . . . .do they work and what should I be prepared for? guessing I...
Question for the board... The manual states: "With this feature, automatic shooting in continuous shooting drive mode is already in progress before you press the shutter button completely, after you have pressed it halfway for a moment. [Pre-Continuous Shooting] is displayed on the shooting screen during pre-continuous shooting." Is there any way to move this function (pre-continuous activation) to the AF-ON button (like Sony & Nikon)? Thanks!
Thread 'Photography is for All'
Seems to me photography transcends all people and physicalities race, politics, abilities and is non judgemental. A great night out with no bells and whistles club. We dont have constitution competitions hierarchy even a president just a bunch of like minded individuals. And there's some cracking photographers I learn each meeting. 15 members out on a chilly night. And a recent duststorm this week . Edit you may ask why the fast shutter speed during dust storm I could hardly stand up 80/90...
Thread 'Waterfall Shots Are Boring and Cliched'
…that’s why I’m at a place with 22 of them. 😝 Fortunately for you most of what I’ve been able to get onto my ipad are off my drone, so you’ll be spared…for now.
1. Don't Panic! :) 2. Read this and be sure to take any action you deem necessary. (After following Adobe's instructions, I can confirm my existing 'banked/ stacked' licences continue to be shown as active/ valid until the correct expiry date). Phil
Good day, I just ordered Canon EOS R7, with 18-150 STM, and considering to buy the Sigma RF-S 18-50 2.8 as well. Later on might add EF-S 55-250 STM or the RF 100-400 STM. After checking this option against the R8 with RF 24-105 4-7.1 STM and RF 100-400 STM. I was tempted to go FF with R8, light weight body, although decided for R7 in the end. Mainly taking photos of landscapes, city trips, sometimes portraits and sports photography (car racing F1 or Hockey). Stepping up from Canon EOS80D...
Thread 'Depth Composting - DPP vs. Helicon'
Just goofing around and decided to try stacking the same set of images in both softwarez. First up is Helicon: Next is DPP As you can see, DPP did....ok, but there's a lot of weird halo-y stuff going on. There were some halos in the Helicon version but I was able to retouch them - which sort of isn't fair, but then again it is because DPP doesn't offer that functionality, which is a demerit for DPP. Also, DPP took two eternities and a couple forevers to stack, Helicon blew through the...
I watch a fair few tornado you tubes to see what latest is. Also setting up my R6 and R5. But boy getting hammered by R6iii R7ii R3ii and other day R4 videos ps don’t watch but saturation point point almost. Cameras will come out in there own good time but people must watch otherwise they wouldn’t post.
I video my son's basketball games in 4K 60p IPB to the internal memory cards. I use a Ulanzi fan mounted to the back of the camera when the LCD screen is folded out. Still have a tough time with the heat buildup. Curious if anyone here has specific experience using an external bettery pack and a dummy battery, if that helps with heat buildup. Thinking of trying this first, before offloading the video recording to something like an Atomos Ninja - that expense is quite large. I already...
I belong to Portland Photographers Forum and there is a monthly challenge where each member can submit up to five photographs to share. The May challenge was Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) / Multiple Exposure. There are great photographs from some outstanding photographers. Watch the video here if it interests you. I know for certain that at least one set of images was using RF glass.
Hello, has anyone had direct experience attaching a replacement foot on the Canon RF600mm F4 L IS USM and mounting it on a Wimberley WH-200 II gimbal head attached to a tripod? So far, I have tried feet from two different companies that were marketed to be compatible with the RF (and EF) 600mm f/4 lens. While both feet attach properly to the lens, the problem is that the lens cannot achieve balance on the gimbal because the foot is too short. To achieve balance, the foot needs to slide...
I wasn't sure whether to add this to an existing thread or start a new one. People ask about LrC performance and I and others have the standard set of "did you try this" set of questions. There is also that very helpful article by Adobe about how to maximize performance on both LrC and PS. Something I once may known but forgot about it. I can't member the last time I've seen any mention of it on any forums. If you have all of your presets open and scroll over them LrC will create a Preview...
