Canon R7 Canon R7 Firmware Update 1.2.0

It sounds totally c—p Jake.
They must be taking a lead from Sony !!
This is a really stupid thought but maybe try the Canon.co.uk website instead as I guess you are using the US link ?
Sounds crazy but not heard of anyone on this side of the pond having issues

LOL I've been all over the world in the last 24 hours. Same issue no matter if and where I can find it.

Aaaaaand, the US customer service line is off until Monday for the Thanksgiving holiday. I've reached out to my friend who's a pro rep, but given the holiday I told him "when you have time", so we'll see. I don't want to reset the camera, but I might just give that a go. I wish I could save settings like on the R5.

Being able to save settings would certainly help.
Have a great Thanksgiving and try not to let it spoil your experience with the R7. It’s not the camera’s fault.
Happy holiday

OK, so I texted my pro rep friend who had not yet updated his R7 so he gave it a shot. He sent me a message with a screen shot saying, "Is this what you're getting, where you can't click on 'OK'? Hmmmm. Give me a few..."

Five minutes later he texts back asking if I'd tried using the D-pad around the Set button to select OK. Seems I'd tried everything that moves a cursor except that, and off I went. My problem? The 'OK' is greyed out when you get to the screen and nothing in the instructions mentions the absolute need to use the D-pad. Touchpad? Doesn't work. Joystick? Doesn't work. Wheel around the joystick? Doesn't work.

Alas, after the firmware upgrade the focus lock is no different. It'll give me the eye detect box and lock on a bird in a tree for 3-5 seconds and then drift onto the background. This happens while simply focusing and waiting to shoot, and also while shooting. If I had a screen recorder I'd show the world. I do have 2 series of shots that go from locked to background and vice versa that my friend asked for so he could send it off to engineers. Maybe 1.3?! Until then I'll be using the R5 as my primary.

In I.T circles, that’s called a PEBKAC issue !!!!
I should know, it happens to me all the time. 😂

I've been in IT for 35 years. It's not PEBKAC when tech support needs to figure it out before getting back to you instead of just reading from a script.

Couldn’t agree more.
When you can write code and design fantastic cameras but can’t simply print instructions someone needs firing. Glad you got it sorted and sorry for joshing.

If there's user error involved it can be tied to the fact that the 3 wheel layout I've been used to with the R5 & R6 have disappeared, so the idea of using something else to move the cursor (when the cursor moves with anything else every other time) is counterintuitive unless the R7 is all you've ever used.

Don't see what it fixes, but I've been waiting for this. Unfortunately the camera won't recognize the file on the card and I can't install it. I've downloaded it 3 times. Grrr.
I had a similar problem so what I did was remove the second card put the firmware onto the first card and that solved the problem.

Is there somewhere I can find a detailed explanation on how to do the firmware update for the Canon R7 using my 2019 iMac? Has anyone noticed any difference after doing the update?
