Recently, I've found myself looking at medium format cameras and sort of wishing that Canon had a medium format option.

These days, for digital medium format cameras, the market is ruled by Hasselblad, Fuji, and Phase One. Fuji is the "budget friendly" option, even they start at $5,000. Phase One, don't even think about asking about their prices.

I've looked at both the Fuji GFX100S II and the Hasselblad X2D in the store. And while cool, I wish there was a Canon with the Canon ergonomics and GUI available in medium format, and a 100+ mp image sensor, with IBIS and all that Canon autofocus and color goodness.

I know it would require Canon to build out a whole new line of lenses to cover the medium format sensor (they could call them the "MF" line of lenses). And I'm sure they would end up at a similar price point to Hasselblad.

Anyone else wish Canon would enter the medium format, high megapixel market?

If I was still shooting professionally I would probably have a medium format system. But for the stuff I shoot now that I no longer have a studio and clients I don't need 100mp files. Heck, I sold my 5Ds because the files were so big for what I really needed.

I admit I twitched for a moment when I saw the new Fuji that was released this week…then I saw “fixed lens” and “no IBIS” and went and hugged my R5.

I think a medium format would be nice to play with, but for what I do, I don’t see a need, so I’m not in the “geez Canon, get on the MF bandwagon” bandwagon.

C'mon, though... You gotta admit it would be fun saying things like, "Hey, check out my new big MFer lens", or "this MF lens is an external zoom, it' gets bigger".

Jared Polin would have a field day with it! He might even actually explode live on air.

Plus, you know it would take awesome pictures too.

But then I could respond - “Your photos are neither rare, nor well done, they’re just medium….”

Not one I could afford. It would likely need a new lens line up as well. Didn't that go south for ON1? With the sensor tech and cropping capability these days not sure if they would take a bath on that specialty item.

An off topic example. Everyone laughed a the 100-500, the 600 and 800 lenses. Not so much at the 200-800. Why just make one line of f4 telephoto lenses that a few can afford. Make ones that millions can afford.
