"Check the edges of your frame" and "Clean your lens, stupid".

I was so caught up in trying to find the exposure that would work for the brightest part of the image as well as the darkest (and too lazy/no tripod to do HDR) that I totally missed the blindingly obvious. :rolleyes:

I am always reminded of this section from "A Scandal in Bohemia", The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Quite so,” he answered, lighting a cigarette, and throwing himself down into an armchair. “You see, but you do not observe. The distinction is clear. For example, you have frequently seen the steps which lead up from the hall to this room.”
“Frequently.”
“How often?”
“Well, some hundreds of times.”
“Then how many are there?”
“How many? I don’t know.”
“Quite so! You have not observed. And yet you have seen. That is just my point. Now, I know that there are seventeen steps, because I have both seen and observed."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is easy to get lost in seeing, that you do not observe.

This was, in a way, the essence of my article titled "Seeing," which requires awareness. In it, I suggested some exercises to improve one's ability to see.

Yeah, I know, but I couldn’t be arsed to do the removal, it’s just not that good a shot.

But even the latest software doesn’t have a dog snot removal tool. (I suspect that’s what was on the lens, making the lower center foggy. I frequently walk with my camera in hand and my arm down and my lens may have been a victim of a drive by.) Apparently canine mucus is in the cyan/blue range because when I did the B&W perversion, I pulled down those two colors and it somewhat mitigated the “fog”. :unsure:
