Any R System images (stills or movies) can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't get around to processing/ editing images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome as this adds to the interest.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery, which can be found Here.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged, as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please aim to be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

Service Announcement: Please note as Phil is still doggy paddling in a sea of raw files from our previous ‘Frank Fest’ and the next one is rapidly approaching, we will not be providing any comments again this month. This is not a sign of any disfavour, but is needed to balance free time with 'real life stuff' and to forestall the risk of serious brain fade!

Images from our recent visit to Dunham Massey, Altrincham, Cheshire, England.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels. As Karen used our Sony RX10 IV these are all by Phil).

1. The Dunham Massey estate has been home to two families - the Booths and the Greys. Seat of the Massey barons, the park at Dunham Massey was first mentioned in 1362. It passed through the female line in marriage to the first Booth, Robert Bothe of Barton in 1453.

2. ‘Old' Sir George Booth, 1st Baronet built the first mansion on the site in the early 17th-century. However, the house remained uncompleted by the time of his death and was only completed after the Civil War in the later 17th century by his grandson, 'Young' George Booth, 1st Baron Delamer.

3. The house was extensively remodelled by John Norris in 1732-40 for the 2nd Earl of Warrington. On the 2nd Earl’s death in 1758 the house passed through marriage to the Earls of Stamford.

4. The 10th Earl of Stamford, Roger Grey (1896–1976), inherited the estate of Dunham Massey at the age of 13.

5. In 1938 he welcomed Haile Selassie, former Emperor of Ethiopia, to stay at Dunham Massey during a period of exile. The visit marked the beginning of a lifelong friendship.

6. Passionate about re-assembling the collections that had been dispersed by the 7th Earl, Grey dedicated his adult life to preserving Dunham Massey and placed the estate into the care of the National Trust in 1976.

Nicely shot, and interesting subject that I will most likely never get to see myself. I could spend the rest of my life in that library - even if I couldn’t read some of the books.

Great pix, Phil, but I must confess that every time I see those big old houses I shudder at how much it must have cost to keep them heated in a British winter...

Meanwhile: I couldn't resist trying my hand at some aurora photography. Yesterday a major solar storm announced its arrival with a phenomenal display - at least, it was phenomenal to the south of us. I spent a couple of hours out in the early evening, and there was plenty of green and red glow to be seen, but it never really got high in the sky at our latitude. One thing I learned? When the dew starts to fall, check your lens, and remember to bring a microfibre cloth...

Taken at 8-40pm last night (forgot to adjust camera time away from daylight saving!). That was the only car that came along the road all evening...

Cheers - appreciated!

The Library was a particularly enthralling room in a truly fascinating house - the scientific instruments included an Orrery (left) and Celestial Globe (right) - both 1740-1760, with the book collection going w-a-y back in time being listed here (you'll need to give the search time to load as it takes a fair while to resolve).

We only had a limited visit here as this was a mid-journey stop-off (the formal gardens and parkland are also fabulous), but no doubt - we'll be back...

It varies from house to house, but heating - and heat retention - was definitely a big thing back then *.

It also never ceases to amaze us that many of these grand homes featured year-round ice houses...

A few recent photos of fauna in the back yard. We have not had too much time to go out on adventures, our daughter graduated from university and we have been going to various events, plus I have been enlisted to do dad things like install her air conditioner for the summer...

Interestingly, we were at a historic house recently where one of their 'claims to fame' is that they - reputedly - have one of Robin Hood's bows...

(Sadly photography was not allowed in the house).

I was checking out a wildflower prairie earlier today when I noticed this little guy perched near the top of a prairie plant. It was coiled around the plant, but I estimate it to be 8-10 inches long.

This is the interior of Saint Katharina Catholic Church in Wolfegg, Germany. It is a Baroque style church built between 1733 and 1742. I had never been to this church before, even though it is a 30 minute drive from my home.
