Any R System images (stills or movies) can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't get around to processing/ editing images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome as this adds to the interest.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery, which can be found Here.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged, as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please aim to be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

We aim to provide feedback - but note we are away for part of each month and busy with ‘life stuff’. The lack of a comment from us is not a sign of disfavour!

Finally, please post in accordance with the RF Shooters Community Guidelines.

Images from our recent visit to Knightshayes, Bonham, Tiverton, England.

(Shot raw and processed using: DxO PL Elite/ ViewPoint and Adobe LrC/ PS with Tony Kuyper Panels. Compilations are a mix of R7 - Karen and R5 - Phil).

1. Knightshayes, a Gothic Revival house, is a rare example of the work of William Burgess. The gardens host one of the finest and most varied plant collections in the country, with over 1200 species unique to Knightshayes.

2. In 1868 Sir John Heathcoat-Amory commissioned architect William Burges to create Knighthayes Court, but the flamboyant interiors he proposed proved too much for Sir John and his wife Henrietta and he was later fired.

3. Prestigious decorator John Dibblee Crace was then commissioned by the family to provide less extravagant Gothic interiors. Still not entirely happy with the result much of Crace's work was covered over, but later restored.

4. During the Second World War, Knightshayes became a USAAF rest home for the American Air Force.

5. The last family members to own Knightshayes were Sir John and Joyce, Lady Amory (respected gardener and world championship golfer - who was playing captain of the Curtis Cup team against the United States in 1932).

6. Sir John lived until 1972, and the house was handed to the National Trust on his death. Joyce continued to live in the east wing until her death in 1997.

Every year in July, our city has a festival that begins on Friday (the last Friday of the school year) and mainly ends after a parade on Monday. There are a few events over the next week, but they are mainly directed towards the school children/students, but the big "public" festival is Friday til Monday. It was first mentioned in city law in 1645, so it has taken place at least since then. We have 20-30 thousand visitors for this festival each year and from all over the world. It really is a homecoming for a lot of people.

Here is an image from the parade this year.

Kyoto's Gion Festival on July 24th . 後祭 Ato Matsuri(Latter Procession) 山鉾巡行 Yamaboko Junko( Floats Parade ).
As the weather forecast for the morning was rain , you can see that some of the Floats have some parts covered in "Rain Coats" . It later rained around noon , but then the parade was almost over . Lucky me , as I didn't want to test the weatherproof capabilities of the R5 .

A striking image which is certain to capture - and hold - the attention of the viewer. The crop and treatment are spot on.

(It's as though you were flying above the subject when you nailed the shot - and if so, we hope you had a safe landing!).

Hi funjp,

Hugely impressive shots from a truly dramatic festival (the first time we call recall seeing a parade including trees!).

All beautifully captured, showcasing the terrific versatility of the RF 24-105mm f/4L (and your considerable talents).

It's fascinating to see these extraordinary sights - thank you very much for sharing... :)

Thanks for the comments Phil . I don't know if you can see , but if you zoom in you'll notice a bird , possibly a falcon , sitting in the pine tree branches . The explanation that I've got is that the pine trees are there so the bird of prey has a place to rest/stand .
 
Covid shut down our local airshow for a few years. I never really liked this venue because the sun is to the left and it was mixed sun and cloud yesterday. Colours are always more flat when I shoot there. Very windy with pretty solid gusts made shooting 1/160 not very easy. Jets were OK with faster SS. I had heck of a time with WB so I gave up :) .

They sure get close

As always a stunning set, Phil and Karen, and they so gracefully and beautifully depict a lifetime and lifestyle that is unimaginable to the likes of me.

What a great portrait. It really has a wonderful feel and I love the look on his face (and the chainmail!)

That is an impressive parade. I am enthralled with the height of the displays and there are trees!!! Great set of images!

These are fabulous!!! They haven't had an airshow here since the pandemic, I'm hoping they will bring it back

Hi Hali,

Thank you for those kind words - very much appreciated! Knightshayes is a very arty property, with extensive and pleasing gardens/ grounds.

Although this was only a time limited mid-journey stop-off for us, it was fascinating and great fun (plus the cheesy scones were on top form!).
