Your R System Images - August 2024

These are super! It's a great reminder that Zoo's are wonderful places to photograph. I loved those giant otters and the giraffes are always a favorite of mine!
Hi Hali,

Cheers - much appreciated!

We certainly agree with your comments - a very rich environment for photography.

The giant otters were a really fun challenge - it was feeding time so they were manic (plus we faced a mixture of wire fencing and thick distorting glass).

One of the things I really wanted to do in Yellowstone was spend time at the hot springs and geysers. What I didn't factor into that equation was that it was going to be cold. And hot springs are... well hot. Really hot. Which means instead of (for the most part) getting shots of gorgeous yellow and blue chromobacteria filled waters I was treated to lots of ... fog. But being the inveterate snapper I am I couldn't let the opportunity of having a camera in my hand be spoiled by not being able to see anything. So I did something I never do. I took pictures of people. Well... of people other than my husband (seen in the second image) The first and third image were at Grand Prismatic spring which is normally stunning. The 4th was at the lower geyser basin and is of people watching Grotto Geyser spout up. The geysers weren't as foggy as the hot springs but there was a lot more steam than I had seen in autumn trips.View attachment 30470View attachment 30471View attachment 30472View attachment 30473
Hi Hali,

A fantastic set of inspirational images - evoking memories of challenging, but fun, environments we've experienced previously (though never volcanic based!).

You did really well to keep things well under control and capture these superb shots (and we bet you had a lot of fun - which is what it's all about).

Absolutely fascinating viewing - thank you for sharing... :)

Hi Only RF,

By coincidence we went out to buy some salad at the weekend and ordered a new car (we're prone to reckless spontaneity).

These shots have done nothing to quell the excitement (though our new wheels will be somewhat more pedestrian than this).

Beautifully captured and presented - image #2 is visually devastating (like the B&W).

Thank you for sharing... :)

Right on. Nothing beats the smell of a new car. We are the same :) Thanks for both posts.

Hi Art,

A mind-blowing set of images - stunning captures of wonderful creatures, all beautifully captured and presented with superb details and lush colours.

It's almost impossible to single out our favourites, but #3 and #4 are absolutely sublime.

Well done - and thank you for sharing... :)

Hi Frank,

A superbly controlled image with the perfect balance of detail and blur - the rich colours contrast beautifully with the pastel (almost B&W) background.

The composition has a great deal for the viewer to explore and admire - which we did! - thank you for sharing... :)

A heavily processed rescue edit of a catastrophically misjudged attempt at an arty shot during a recent historic house visit (Culzean Castle in Scotland).

The 'kitchen sink' included - DxO PhotoLab 7/ Nik Collection, Adobe LrC/ Photoshop with Tony Kuyper Panels and Topaz Labs Photo AI/ Studio 2.

It's still all over the place and won't stand up to close scrutiny, but I kind of like it in a 'better luck next time' sort of way - so anyway, here you go... :)

Phil

Hi Art,

A truly spectacular way to start any day * - a superb capture of a magnificent creature.

Hi Don,

Cheers - much appreciated!

The giant otters were great fun - both very vocal (the male in particular - interestingly, he will only eat a certain type of fish, which they have to import).
