We hope you enjoy creating fantastic images this month!

Have fun - but stay safe and well…

Service Announcement: Due to ongoing family support commitments our responses on here will be minimal for the time being - as usual, the lack of a comment from us is not a sign of any disfavour! Normal service will resume (eventually) but for now, please bear with us - ’tis life… 🙂

Any R System images can be posted. If you would like to say something about the subject, settings, or processing, that will be very welcome.

Remember, you don't have to only post things you took this month - sometimes people don't have time to process/ edit images straight away. (Think of it more as an ‘images I’d like to post here this month’ sort of thing). Images taken with non-R System lenses are also very welcome.

Images posted on this thread will also be available to view in the dedicated Monthly R System Images Gallery.

Commenting on people’s posts is encouraged as it keeps everyone interested and coming back. (Please be considerate, thoughtful and constructive).

Finally, please post in accordance with the RF Shooters Community Guidelines.

Thank you!

1. The Norman knight Odo de Barri was granted the lands of Manorbier, Penally and Begelly in gratitude for his military help in conquering Pembrokeshire after 1093. He initially constructed a motte-and-bailey castle on the site, which was later strengthened using local stone.

2. His fourth son was Gerald de Barri, known as Gerald of Wales (the great twelfth-century scholar), who was born at the castle. Gerald is renowned for his chronicles and descriptions of life in his time - ‘In all the broad lands of Wales, Manorbier is the most pleasant place by far’.

3. The castle was seized and slighted by Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War in 1645. Through the 17th and 18th centuries, Manorbier fell into decay. However, in 1880 the castle was partially restored by J.R.Cobb, a tenant who repaired the buildings and walls.

4. During World War II the castle accommodated Royal Airforce Personnel. The nearby Manorbier Camp housed a major anti-aircraft artillery school, which contributed to the wider coastal defence network.

5. The castle was a film location for 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe' 1989 and 'I Capture the Castle' 2001, when the moat was refilled with spring water. The castle and gardens (designed by Daphne Shackleton, one of Irelands foremost plants women) are privately owned, but are open to the public.

6. The nearby St James Church was founded as a monastery in the 6th century by St Pyr (the first abbot of Caldey Island, who left lasting marks on this part of Pembrokeshire – Manorbier in Old Welsh means ‘belonging to Pyr’). The stone church seen today was rebuilt in the 12th century, when Manorbier Castle was erected by the de Barri family. Inside the church is the effigy of a knight (a de Barri of Manorbier Castle) which dates to 1325.
