My go to air to air body has long been the 5DSR, but with the speed I seem to be migrating to the R/RF system, I figured I'd better give the R5 the acid test. This was the first air to air assignment with the R5. One of the subject pilots had not flown a lot of formation so I chose the 100-500 over my normal 70-200/2.8, just to give me some reach. Much of the time we were shooting in subdued light and shutter speeds rarely rose above 1/80th to keep the propellers in a full disc. The camera performed very well, I am going to modify my Small Rig cage accessories for the next shoot but other than that it worked perfectly.

A good lens for what it does, with it's drawbacks
I have had this lens since it came out and it is my lightweight go to lens for walking around in the city and using my infrared-converted camera...
