Nokishita has leaked the first images of the Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro lens. According to Canon Rumors this lens will be officially announced later this month.

Update: Nokishita has provided some further details on the 'SA Control' feature and magnification ratio. "It seems that the main features of Canon "RF 100mm F2.8 L MACRO IS USM" are "maximum shooting magnification 1.4x" and "adjustable bokeh with SA (Spherical Aberration) control"

Update 2: Apparently the price in the US will be $1,399.00

Is that an S or a 5 in front of control. If an S it may be for Slide control for doing minute focus adjustments for stacking, but I personally think it's a 5, and for that I have no idea whatsoever ! I tried my EF 100 f2.8 L with an RF adapter and it worked perfectly well in normal light, however when I attached my twin flash rig to it I started having problems with black bands at the bottom of the photo. I'm not sure if it wasn't down to human error not having the settings right, but I've recently bought the RF 85 f2 Macro IS STM so will give that a go with and without flash and see what happens.

My understanding is that you should be using the mechanical shutter with EF lenses and the adapter when doing flash photograpy. The electronic shutter may be the cause of the banding. I have mine set to electronic 1st curtain and with two flashes did not have an issue with my Tamron 28-300mm and rf adapter (no banding) full manual mode.

Thank you for that information, I have it set to electronic at the moment so I will try it with the mechanical shutter and flash. I really hope that does solve the problem. I will update when I have tried it.

It looks like the price will be $1,399.00 in the US. Via Nokishita.

I'll wait and see what the price is on E-Infinity and Panamoz but I'll probably pick this up

Anyone heard a release date for this one

It's already shipping to those who pre-ordered early. Mine arrived a couple of weeks ago already.

I didn’t order until the end of May guess I’ll be waiting until the next batch ☹️

Yeah you could be in for a bit of a wait then 😀

To be honest though, I wasn’t expecting mine anytime soon. As I assumed many people had preordered one way before me.

Having said that, I’m not exactly sure as to when they actually came out.

The canon site was a bit vague just said July but also sure I had read somewhere they had under estimated demand

Yeah I think everything’s the same at the moment.
I definitely wasn’t expecting to receive mine as soon as I have, and just went with an “expect it when I see it” kind of outlook.

I’ve tried finding info on the tripod ring for it too (as I use the one on my EF version all the time) but I’ve had no joy so far…

I've had lens on order since August from Park Cameras. The web site is showing expected delivery 3/10. Who knows how realistic this is under current
delivery of Canon lenses.

And the question of the day - "what is SA control?" :)
If I understand it correctly it actually allows you to play with the quality of the bokeh. I've not had a lens with it in my hands but I've spoken to someone who has and it's an amazingly cool concept if they can pull it off, particularly when using it as a portrait lens.

It will be worth the wait Ken. It might also be worth calling around some of the smaller camera stores like Camera Centre UK, Wilkinson, or Harrisson if you are in a hurry, occasionally they have stock in or their waiting list isn't as long as the bigger stores like Park.

I’ve had mine on order since June wex are saying end of the month. I’m just an amateur and I’m wondering if I actually need a lens of this quality contemplating if the 85mm macro would be just fine. Has anyone used it?

Just got notified canon direct had them and ordered it. It shipped today and I will have it in 5 days. Very excited to get into macro photography with its 1.4x

Put my order in late afternoon on 14th of April. Pretty sure that was the first day of preorders when I did mine.
How are you finding the lens wex are saying end of the month but I’m now finding myself wondering if it’s the best lens for me

Apologies, I’ve only just received the notification of your message 🙄

Yes, it’s a beautiful lens. I’d say it’s definitely quicker to focus compared to my previous EF version.

Haven’t really had much time or opportunity to shoot at minimum focus as yet though. So I can’t really give any feedback on that part…
