I decided to pre-order one myself, is anyone else tempted?

Canon have also released a promo video:

I'll have to change my answer on the 100mm looks pretty interesting. Not sure I will get it in the near term but I may have to pick one up at some point.

Pre-ordered mine--Looks pretty cool. thanks for the heads-up post.

I am really anxious to hear if this is significantly better than the ef version. I love my ef.

I’m excited by this as currently use the ef 100mm L so will b getting this definitely

I have been thinking about getting the Canon RF 85mm F1.2L USM partly because of its incredible sharpness, and speed, but it doesn't have any IS. The RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro has IS with my R5 gets a possible 8 stops, and amazing macro, and an added useful 20mm extra telephoto, and SA, and its cheaper. For me its a no brainer. I am just going to wait for its first review showing picture quality. No quality captures then its no go to me.

Read the Canon write up and other reviewers. Its my most wanted RF lens

I don't see the benefit of pre-ordering. I've seen other lenses that people have pre-ordered and the lens has flooded the retailers very soon after, often at a lower price

Never seen a new lens released at a lower price.

Put the comma in the wrong place. Should read: ,very soon after often at

I can’t see that being the case as things are at the moment.

In fact, I’d be very surprised if all preorders are even fulfilled within a few months of its initial release.
The top tier RF lenses are pretty much non existent, stock wise, at places like WEX.

My FR 24 - 240 was an open box on eBay. I did see that lens at several places cheaper than WEX. In fact I find WEX one of the most expensive suppliers.

My R5 was on back order with some suppliers including WEX when I was looking. I bought it from Panamoz, they had it in stock.

I’ve never used any of the grey imported companies to be honest. But I’ve heard nothing but praise for them.

I’ll admit that WEX are not the cheapest. But I’ve always found their customer service (before and after) to be outstanding.

I don’t mind paying a bit ‘extra’ for that piece of mind though.

My R5 was over £1k cheaper than a UK supplier, tha'ts more than a bit :)

Yeah, I know.

For the amount I’ve spent on photography gear over the years. I should’ve at least tried some grey import by now.

It’s just the thought of if it needs returning though. That’s what always puts me off.

I have the same concerns, the 1K made up my mind. I also checked Panamoz on the internet for feedback and all good. I could have got the camera for less but the feedback from these cheaper places made you weep from the problems customers had. Once a business has earned a good reputation they will do their best to maintain it

Thank you, Timothy. It looks like a lot of lens for the money, and at 1.6 lbs, it would be a good one to have for stock images.

Well I ordered this lens back in August from Park cameras and have been keeping a check on their web site. It started with delivery expected Sep 9th, then Oct 3, then Oct 15. Now it just states no reliable delivery date. So it's anybody's guess when it will turn up. Seems everything in the RF system gets announce before they have any hope of delivering. I expect the R3 will be the same.

You had it on order all that time 😱

I've seen them for sale in many places. I bought my used a few days ago from someone that had it a month maybe a bit less. Panamoz has it for £1450 with 3 year warranty, it's a grey import, I've bought my R5 from them.

See if Panamoz have it and get it, cancel Park. Or go to the Camera Show at NEC Birmingham, if you are in the UK, enjoy the day out and see if you can get the lens there

Interesting that the US price is $1399, which at todays exchange rate is £1,010.74 . Considerably less than the quoted UK price!!

I think that is the price into the USA. Each state has a different set of taxes and they have to be added to the initial import price. You need a retailer price that includes all tax an delivery

Just received notice that my 100/2.8 Rf shipped. My supplier has a couple more available if anyone is looking for one. Just let me know and I'll get you in touch with him.
