I'm not a huge follower, but I've run internet forums before and when I saw what he posted there's no way you could pay me enough to take over. You run a site that's meant to inform and you wind up with threats to your wife and children?! The internet is a horrible place.

Let's hope it doesn't happen here then! To be honest forums are becoming a rarity nowadays. Facebook isn't a good replacement if you want to discuss particular topics but it seems even that is losing popularity to media that is all about the person sending out their own stories . Influencers....what's that all about. Gathering followers to try and become famous and many "also rans" achieving it so it seems. However when you see how genuine celebrities can earn fortunes by endorsing products on their media pages even though they don't even write their posts , instead employing some one to do it for them, you understand why!

I've found that the more restrictive you are on letting people in the easier it is to manage the toxicity provided you have a hard and fast 2 strike rule. When you're essentially a blogging platform with all interaction occurring in the comments section it is open season on trolls and worse. What bothered me most about what was said is that the people sending messages seemed to be acolytes of a handful of Canon YouTube bros. When you pledge allegiance to a guy making his living off of you listening to his opinion I guess it means you're already rather vacant.

I've read Craig's post from the above link, and I'm a bit confused. It reads like some bad Hollywood movie - threats to family and I'm not sure what else. Does anyone have any further info or know what he's referring to? This whole thing sounds bad.

That is such a shame as he does a cracking job and appears to have built up a lovely community over there. I don’t know the details regarding these personal attacks on his family but they sound really awful. I guess there’s only so much one can take before throwing in the towel. Hopefully there are much more pleasant pastures ahead for him.

I’ve been running Facebook Groups in the photography space for around 5 years now and although I’ve received abuse from time to time it hasn’t been too bad so far and certainly no threats to my family thankfully. I’ll never reply to anyone who sends a nasty message to me, just block and delete and make sure they are blocked from all the groups we run so that they can’t be nasty to anyone else.

Forums don’t appear to be quite so popular these days with so many other social platforms to share photos and ask questions on, but I prefer how easy it is to manage content here and don’t need to worry about Facebook deleting it overnight through no fault of my own. Other than the usual spammers I’ve not had to remove anyone from this site so far, you all appear to be well behaved adults thankfully!
