Note the closed, feather eyelid on this Eastern Bluebird. I was surprised when the bird alighted in a nearby tree, but it took me some time to figure out what was going on with its eye as it looked over its shoulder. At first I thought it was wounded, but realized that was its shuttered eyelid. It was like it was basking in the sunshine with its eyes closed.
