Can you think of a situation where you would want to filter the RF 200-800mm lens? I’m planning to buy the lens before going to Alaska. It has a 95mm filter thread, and I’m wondering if I should get the 95mm adapter for my 100x100mm Haida filter set. What are your thoughts?

I'm assuming your Haida filters are the ones used typically for landscapes like ND or graduated filter. There are times that a telephoto would be used for landscapes but I don't think it is very often, especially for a zoom in the longer focal range. I have a 95mm BW UV filter on mine, just for some protection but don't have anything like a polarizer or ND in that size and haven't needed it.

Thanks. And yes, I have the 100mm Haida ND, graduated, and light pollution filters. Given that I'll be aboard a cruise ship for much of the time, I'm thinking now that a circular polarizer might be the only filter I'll really need.

Wow, i was just thinking of getting a polarizer for my 200-800, but thinking it through as it use it almost exclusively for wildlife, would it really be of any use, as when zoomed to 800mm the filter would be too far away to be practical.

Good point. I'm just thinking a polarizer might good for photos of oceans and glaciers. But would it actually be helpful at 800mm? I don't know.

I think if using for landscapes where you have the time for adjustment of the filter then there would be a benefit, but for more dynamic subjects where you dont have the time to adjust the filter then no so much.
